“I am N'Baro Aksteel X377... Just call me Steel, yeah? —Steel to Maxwell, Come Together Part One
N'Baro Aksteel X377, better known as Steel or Aksteel, is one of the two main protagonists of Max Steel alongside Maxwell McGrath. He is a techno-organic[2] alien technology known as an Ultralink, being classified as an Omega Class model. Prior to the series' events, Jim (Max's father and Steel's former partner) and Steel suffered a violent betrayal at the hands of Miles Dread, one of N-Tek's co-founders, causing him to shut down and damage his memory. After Maxwell McGrath began to generate large amounts of T.U.R.B.O. energy, Steel was awakened from his dormant state and bonded with him, forming the superhero Max Steel. With his alien technology, the Ultralink is able to control McGrath's powers and harness it in combat through Turbo Modes. Using their might, Steel and Max fought against dangerous individuals, such as Miles Dread, Toxzon, Extroyer, the Elementors, and other evildoers. He was a member of the top secret organization N-Tek, led by Maxwell's uncle, Forge Ferrus, who kept the truth about Steel and McGrath's pasts a secret.
Thanks to Miles Dread, Earth is invaded by a large Ultralink fleet and Steel partly learns the truth about him and his kind, discovering that he was built to conquer and destroy. Despite initially shaken by the reveal, the Ultralink and McGrath continue their pursuit to uncover the truth about their pasts. They learn about a super weapon named "Turbo Star", which Max's father worked on before his death. Believing this could help them to understand more about themselves, they decide to search for the device. Unknown to them, Miles Dread and his right-hand man, Jason Naught, also sought the Turbo Star, leading to multiple confrontations between the two teams, with the villain emerging victorious at the end. During a confrontation against the Ultralinks, Steel is infected by a virus that slowly breaks down his systems and cause him and his host to witness some of his memories. Molly, Max's mother, and Forge, decide to share the truth about their pasts, revealing that Jim was an alien hailing from planet Takion and Steel had bonded to him to form the first Max Steel. After uncovering the truth, Steel and Max chose to use their powers to fend off Makino and his armada of evil Ultralink. After the warlord's temporary defeat at the hands of the duo, he decides to come to Earth in full speed alongside his armada and the Alphalink, a giant planet-eating device. During the final battle against Makino, Steel and Max learn that Jim was still alive and was kept as a prisoner inside the Alphalink, serving as a living battery. After freeing him, Steel, Max and Jim put an end to Makino's reign of terror, destroying his planet-eating weapon and destroying his armada.
Despite their efforts, Makino's central processing unit still remained. While commemorating Jim's return, Steel suddenly plays a recording of the warlord, who revealed he had set a competition to determine who would hair his powers. Max, Steel and the remaining Ultralinks battle for Makino's central processing unit, but McGrath is eventually taken over by the warlord himself, revealing to be a trap set up by him to find a powerful host to bond with. Steel re-bonds with Jim in order to save McGrath, but the two fail. Using the power of the bond they shared, however, Steel manages to free the teen from the warlord's grasp, only for the villain to bond with Jim. After a difficult battle, the heroic duo successfully weaken Makino, and McGrath hurls him into the Sun, permanently putting an end to Makino reign of terror. Some time after, Miles Dread reactivates Project Morphos, one of N-Tek's old projects designed to stop Makino, with the intent of destroying Max Steel and N-Tek. With Jim's help, Steel and Max unlock the Duo Strike technique, allowing them to combine two Turbo Modes at once and defeat the creature. Morphos, having failed the mission Miles had given him, is betrayed by his own creator. He later returns, but with the ability of merging two or more powers at once. As he begins to steal the powers of Max's villains and imprison them, Max Steel and Miles Dread form an uneasy alliance to take down Morphos, who eventually transforms the entire Copper Canyon into monsters like him. After unlocking Turbo Exo Strength Mode, Max and Steel turn the tide, and successfully defeat the villain while also restoring the humanity of the citizens.
Two years after Morphos' defeat, a new villain named Mortum arises and defeats N-Tek, plunging Copper Canyon into chaos in his search for the Connect-Tek device. He later allied with Max Steel's worst enemies, Extroyer, Toxzon and the Elementors, to help him in his mission. Realizing they were unable to save the day on their own, Steel and Max create Team Turbo, comprised of themselves, Alejandro "Alex" Villar, Rayne Martinez and C.Y.T.R.O., who was gifted with a mind of his own. With their new allies, Max and his team succeeded in stopping the villains. Mortum later returns, having mutated into a robot zombie thanks to a damaged Connect-Tek, but is eventually stopped by Max Steel and Team Turbo.
After their encounter with Mortum, Max Steel and Team Turbo are captured by the masked figure Dr. Prometheus Halifax, aka Terrorax, who wanted to exploit the true power of McGrath's T.U.R.B.O. energy. Using a machine, he permanently unlinks Steel from Max and made the hero to go far beyond his limits, causing him to unlock a stronger, green-colored version of his power. While Steel is unable to handle this power, being capable of assimilating very small amounts to stay alive, he helps Max and his team by providing information and technology (Steel-Tek) for them to use in the battlefield.
Originally a member of Metallak's army, Steel was sent along with a fleet of Ultralinks to Planet Takion to conquer it for Makino's glory. As he sees the inhabitants of the world fighting against the Ultralinks, he thinks that they are brave and decides to bond with one of them. He is stopped by the soldier, who asks what the Takonians did to them and Steel says that they were made to absorb and expand for Makino's glory. In response, the Takonian says that there were no glory in the destruction of innocent lives, which confuses Steel, who asks himself how he could deal with such reckless hate. He is attacked by a Xenoshok, who attempts to finish off the Takonian. Steel decides that he should live and bonds with him, causing a massive blast of energy that kills the creature and together they merge into the first Max Steel. The Takonian, named as Ja'em Mk'rah, properly introduces himself to the Ultralink, who does the same. They proceed to fight against some of Makino's monsters, but they decide to escape from the planet as it was too late and the Alphalink was starting to devour it. Using a ship of Ja'em, the duo goes to Earth, which was Makino's next target.[3]
Once they arrive, they founded an organization named as N-Tek, formed by Ja'em (now under his Earth alias, James "Jim" McGrath), Steel himself, Molly McGrath, Miles Dread and Forge Ferrus. They were working on projects to stop Makino's upcoming invasion, including the Turbo Star, a powerful device capable of turning its user into a living T.U.R.B.O. Energy weapon, and Morphos, a creature capable of copying the powers of its foes, though the latter was vetoed as it could become an even worse threat than Makino himself;[4]
Makino's army eventually made its way to Earth and N-Tek prepared themselves to face them. However, they were quickly outnumbered by the Ultralinks. They decided to release their secret weapon: Jim and Steel, who use their Turbo skills to take down the aliens and save the day. During an undetermined period of time, Jim and Steel traveled to other planets to take down Makino's Ultralinks. The Black Star Council, an organization comprised of individuals who survived from Makino's invasions, were aware of their activities as a superhero and considered them as the greatest heroes of the galaxy.[5] Legends were also told about their heroic deeds.[5]
At June 07, 1995, Jim and Molly's baby, Maxwell McGrath, was born.[6] He used Steel as a pacifier, much to his annoyance. After Jim sees this, he presumes that his kid liked Steel and kisses his forehead before going to test the Turbo Star.
Unknown to Jim and Steel, Miles had built a device capable of harnessing T.U.R.B.O. energy to his own gain. Once Steel links with the device, Dread activates his own device to steal Ja'em power, which causes a massive explosion that nearly kills him, Jim and ultimately shuts down Steel.[7] The Ultralink goes on hibernation mode, encased by a blue and silver sphere and remains inactive for sixteen years. He is placed at one of N-Tek's halls alongside an hologram of Jim, as an homage to N-Tek's late co-creator. Miles' actions also tainted Steel's image, with the legend of Ja'em Mk'rah stating that the Ultralink had betrayed his partner and killed him.[8]
After causing a large T.U.R.B.O. explosion, Maxwell McGrath is taken to N-Tek's mountain base to have his powers regulated. Forge Ferrus takes him to the Turbo Chamber, but it fails and the teen begins to overload. Sensing the energy, Steel, in his pod form, heads straight to the chamber and prepares to Ultralink with him. He introduces himself to McGrath, claiming that he would help him escape from that place. Despite being confused at first, Maxwell accepts and the two bond, causing an armor to be generate on Max's body. Steel takes control of his body and the two ultimately escape from N-Tek's headquarters, ending up at the mountains. Max demands Steel to take him off from the "monkey suit" he was wearing, but the Ultralink reveals that it wouldn't be possible, as their connection was "unbreakable".
Steel controls Max's body.
Steel runs a diagnosis of Max's body, puppeteering with his body. He comes to the conclusion that everything was fine, but realizes that his memory core was damaged. Angered, Max grabs Steel and tells him that he was nobody's "puppet" while accidentally transferring T.U.R.B.O. energy to him. As a result, Steel begins to overload and begins a countdown. He informs Max to throw him. After doing so, the Ultralink hits a mountain, causing a large T.U.R.B.O. explosion. Max runs toward him, asking if he was okay. Steel quickly recomposes himself, claiming that they made a "painfully explosive combination". Curious, Max agrees and wondered what else they could do. McGrath shouts "Go Turbo!" and Steel Ultralinks with him, but nothing happens. The alien criticizes Maxwell's motto, but he shrugs it off. They try to Ultralink again, but they suddenly begin to catch fire. A fire monster confronts the duo, jumping toward them.
Scanning his database, Steel activates Defense Protocol X795, of which Max nicknames as "Turbo Strength Mode". The two fight against the monster, who ultimately overwhelms them with his power. He accidentally throws them across the mountains.
Forge Ferrus, using a N-Tek Jump Jet, rescue Max and Steel. After they reunite, Ferrus is surprised to see the Ultralink was still alive. He scolds them for attacking N-Tek agents and stealing one of the organization's vehicles, though Steel dismisses it, stating they were just escaping. He reveals that they weren't prisoners, much to Steel's shock. Ferrus further comments that he thought that the Ultralink had perished during the accident that had taken Jim's life, and that it was good to see him. Steel, however, reveals that he had no recollection of him, with Max complementing that his memory core was damaged. Forge states that, now that the two were Ultralinked, Steel would control his T.U.R.B.O. powers. The Ultralink reveals that the process was irreversible, much to Max's shock, who claimed that his life was ruined. Ferrus instructs Steel suppress McGrath's energy signature, so Fire Elementor and other individuals wouldn't track them. After doing so, Forge order the two to later head to N-Tek for testing and to not tell McGrath's mother, Molly, about anything.
Forge leaves Steel and Max on the apartment of the McGrath. The teen gestures Steel to make silence, but he accidentally stumbles into a pile of boxes, causing Molly to hear him. He quickly throws Steel into a room and wears some of the clothing from the boxes to hide the Steel Suit. The Ultralink escapes and begins to silently analyze Molly, who was still oblivious to their situation. Max quickly grabs Steel while she was distracted and heads to his room.
Steel creates Turbo Camouflage Mode for Max.
In the next day, Max is awakened by Molly. Using one of his protocols, Steel reveals that he had spent the entire night scanning his wardrobe to conceal the McGrath's Steel Suit. He bonds to teen, creating Turbo Camouflage Mode. Max grabs Steel, putting him inside of his backpack, and heads to school. There, while talking with Kirby, McGrath realizes that he had damaged Sydney's phone. Curious, Steel ask who Sydney was and requests to see the device, quickly fixing it. Hours later, the two head to N-Tek per Forge's orders, where Steel fully activates the Steel Suit for combat. Roberto "Berto" Martinez sends out several robots for them to fight, and in the process Steel unlocks Turbo Flight Mode for Max to use. An angered Berto leaves after McGrath defeats his robots, and the teen is contacted by Sydney, who asks him out on a date.
Steel confronts Fire Elementor.
Hours later, Steel and Max head to the cafeteria. The Ultralink projects a black suit for McGrath to use, but he complains about the collar. After Sydney arrives, they enter the place. During the date, Steel telepathically communicates with Max, much to his annoyance. He excuses himself and heads to the toilet, where Steel unlinks from him and McGrath scolds him for disturbing him. He leaves the Ultralink in there and goes back to Sydney. Suddenly, Fire and Earth Elementors begin to attack Copper Canyon. McGrath hails a taxi for Sydney for her to leave safely, and reunites with Forge and Molly, who were also on the cafeteria. The trio escapes in Ferrus' car after Fire throws a fireball at them. Realizing he was left behind, Steel leaves the toilet and tries to reach them. On the way, he is confronted by Fire Elementor, who comments about the Ultralink's "treachery", much to his confusion. With several T.U.R.B.O. blasts, Steel manages to knock down some posts on top of the fire monster, temporarily trapping him.
Steel successfully reaches Max, re-bonding with him and activating Turbo Modes for him to use in his battle against Earth Elementor. After temporarily stopping the monster, Fire attempts to kill Molly and Ferrus. Steel unlinks from Max's chest and tells him to throw him at the Elementor. After doing so, Fire is knocked out but falls on top of Steel, causing him to be unable to return to Max and relink with him. With Max left vulnerable, Earth captures him and escapes.
Steel reunites with the Ferrus, Molly, Berto, Jefferson and Kat at N-Tek's mountain base. He analyzed THI's building plant alongside Berto, realizing that there were several several openings that he could enter. He eventually reaches the top of the tower, where a restrained Maxwell was being kept as a prisoner by Miles Dread. He manages to free McGrath and relink with the teen, regulating his T.U.R.B.O. levels. The two prepare to escape via Turbo Flight Mode, but Miles manages to unlink Steel from McGrath, deactivating the transformation and causing the teen to fall from the top of the tower to the ground. Dread continues with his master plan, placing him into a terminal.
Max and Steel are interviewed.
With the help of N-Tek, Max reaches the top of the tower and confronts Miles Dread during the execution of his plan. He frees Steel, who relinks with him and activates Turbo Strength Mode to fight. During their battle, Max realizes he could overload Miles Dread with T.U.R.B.O. energy and talks with Steel about his plan. The teen tackles at the villain, activating Turbo Flight Mode, and grabbing him while flying straight into the space. He instructs Steel to deactivate his T.U.R.B.O. dampeners and begins to generate large amounts of power, all of which Miles absorbs. Eventually, Miles explodes, and Max Steel heads back to downtown Copper Canyon. They are approached by various citizens and a reporter who asks what was his name. The two say their names, with the journalist claiming that the city now had their very own superhero: Max Steel.
Max and Steel are walking in an alleyway when they are suddenly attacked by a trio of ninjas. After being overwhelmed by them, Steel links to Max and activates Turbo Strength Mode. After defeating them, a monster emerges from the sewers and attacks them. Ferrus contacts them, telling them to remain composed and focus on the mission. However, the duo are defeated and the Berto ends the simulation, mocking the two for being defeated by a simple sewer creature. Steel, in turn, unlinks from Max's chest and mocks his hair. The two leave the N-Tek facility and head to THI.
Steel faces the zombies.
Arriving there, Steel begins to telepathically argue with Max, claiming he was feeling bored. Suddenly, THI's chemical hazard alarm goes off, and the Ultralink convinces McGrath to let him unlink from him so he can investigate. After Max, Molly, Sydney and Kirby escape from a horde of toxic zombies, McGrath's mother instructs Steel to bring the company’s mainframe back online in the lower levels. After facing several zombies, Steel reaches the mainframe and unlocks the passage for Max and the group, also discovering that the laboratory of former THI scientist Xander is the only room still receiving full power. After Max's group succumbs to the infection, McGrath retreats into the lower levels, where he links with Steel. A horde of zombies attack them, but Max uses a Turbo Pulse to disperse them.
A mutated Tytus confronts Max and Steel.
The two head to Xander's laboratory, where they learn that the disgruntled scientist was the one responsible for the infection. During their confrontation, however, Tytus falls into a container with toxic waste. The two check his terminal for a potential antidote, only for the scientist suddenly emerge from the contaminated materials mutated into a monster. Max and Steel link to activate Turbo Strength Mode, but are overwhelmed by the villain's power. He attempts to push Max into toxic waste, but Steel unlinks from McGrath's chest and attacks him with a T.U.R.B.O. burst, disorienting him. The teen then delivers a powerful punch at him, successfully defeating Tytus. Steel investigates Xander's lab and finds the ingredients for a cure. They insert the tube with the liquid into the terminal, but it doesn't works. The Ultralink realizes that the catalyst was still missing, until they spot Tytus' plastic fish "Fishy". They analyze him and find the missing component. After inserting it into the terminal, the infected individuals are cured.
Max reunites with Molly, Sydney and Kirby in THI's main hallways. From a distance, Steel boasts that he has once again saved the day.
From inside of Max's backpack, Steel observed McGrath's soccer match. After one of the players of the opposing team scored a goal, Max headed toward his backpack to get some water. Steel mocks the player, whose nickname "la fiera", was being shouted by the crowd. Suddenly, the Ultralink picks up an emergency signal from N-Tek. Curious, McGrath asks what kind of emergency it was when a piece of the Daedelus platform falls into the soccer field.
Steel picks up traces of Transdimensional energy.
After Max saves some of the civilians, he heads toward his backpack and links with Steel, activating Turbo Flight Mode. He tries to reach the Daedelus, but it crashes into the ground. Max tries to investigate the wreckage, but Steel warns it was too hot. They decide to use Turbo Hammer Claw Mode to tear apart some of the debris and enter the place. Steel immediately detects no signs of the crew, and unlinks from Max's chest to analyze the place. He finds traces of Transdimensional Energy, but he was unsure about what had happened with any of the agents. Max finds a handle of a sword on some of the wreckage. As he grabs it, several pieces reunite with the sword, forming its blade. Upon inspecting it, Steel is fascinated. Suddenly, he receives an emergency signal from the World 31 base.
Steel discovers the chip containing C.Y.T.R.O.'s .
Max and Steel head to the World 31 base, which was being raided by Extroyer and his army of clones. McGrath activates Turbo Stealth Mode to investigate the place and finds Extroyer, who had contacted Mortum to inform that he had not found the Connect-Tek. They head to one of Berto's old robotics lab and are attacked by C.Y.T.R.O.. After a brief fight against the robot, they discover that Rayne Martinez, Berto's younger sister, was controlling it. She comments that a medallion that her brother had previously given to her began to flash and instructed to go to World 31. Steel inspects the device and finds a chip containing the same technology as that of C.Y.T.R.O.. He opens a small compartment on his head and inserts the chip, gifting the robot with a mind of his own. They are forced to escape from the lab, as Extroyer's clones were trying to get in.
Copper Canyon is plunged into chaos.
The group heads to the front door of the base, where Extroyer was. After a brief fight against him and his clones, Max instructs the group to retreat. They head to a mountain, where Max tells Rayne they should get her somewhere safe. Steel runs a quick analysis and sees that Toxzon and the Elementors were raiding N-Tek bases all over the city, comparing the place to a "warzone". After Max comments about the Connect-Tek, the Ultralink mentions about the Makinian letters they had seen while Extroyer contacted Mortum while talking about the device. Max comes to the conclusion that, if the Connec-Tek was indeed Makinian technology, it could be stored in the Ice Box, where other alien technology was also stored. After arriving, Max accesses a terminal and unlocks the blast door of the facility. They head to a chamber where a hologram of Jim explains the Connect-Tek and its capabilities. Suddenly, the security system picks up an intruder, warning the group. After equipping themselves, Steel and the team head to the front door. They are approached by Alejandro "Alex" Villar, a player from Max's soccer match, who reveals to have followed a piece of the Connect-Tek sword. As C.Y.T.R.O. detects a storm brewing, Steel and the rest of the group decide to retreat into the base.
Team Turbo defeated.
The Elementors manage to invade the Ice Box and begin to attack. The group decides to retreat deeper into the base, eventually finding the chamber housing the Connect-Tek. After the Elementors catch up to them, Alex closes the blast door, trapping the group inside with the device. Alex and Rayne attempt to convince McGrath to activate the Connect-Tek to create armors for them. Steel agrees with them, and Max decides to use the device. He transfers his T.U.R.B.O. energy to the Connect-Tek and the other individuals around him, creating Team Turbo. The group fights against the Elementors, but are ultimately defeated. While the Ultralinks argue who should possess the Connect-Tek, Toxzon appears and steals the device from them. Max wakes up soon after the Goopanoids leave, and instructs Steel, Rayne and Alex to organize the base while he went after Toxzon.
Team Turbo commemorates their victory.
Max succeeds in obtaining the Connect-Tek, but gets unconscious after his battle against Toxzon. He is rescued by C.Y.T.R.O. and reunited with the rest of Team Turbo. After waking up, Extroyer, Toxzon and the Elementors team-up to defeat them. Steel links to Max and activates Turbo Prime Mode. Releasing a powerful T.U.R.B.O. energy wave at Rayne, Alex and C.Y.T.R.O., the trio transforms into their Turbo Modes for the fight. After defeating the villains, Max Steel and Team Turbo commemorate their victory. However, they are interrupted by Mortum, who, as a hologram, uses his Transdimensional energy to steal the Connect-Tek. Unknown to him, however, Max had snuck a piece of his Connect-Tek sword inside the container housing the Connect-Tek, allowing them to track down Mortum. Arriving on his hideout, Max demands the device back, but the villain refuses to hand it over. In order to distract McGrath and his team, Mortum implants bombs on Jim, Kat and Molly and generates a shield in front of them before escaping. Steel unlinks from Max's chest and quickly finds the location of the shield generators. McGrath instructs his team to destroy them, and, after doing so, he slashes the bombs in half, saving Jim, Kat and Molly's lives. The team reunite with him, commemorating their victory.
After stopping a group of thieves, Max, Steel, Rayne, Alex and C.Y.T.R.O. spends time in Copper Canyon's streets, where McGrath reveals his intentions of creating new modes for his allies to use. Their conversation is interrupted after a horde of robot zombies approach them. Steel links with Max to activate Turbo Prime Mode, while the rest of Team Turbo activates their primary Turbo Modes. They attempt to fend off the zombies, but are quickly overwhelmed. Suddenly, they stop attacking and begin to send the brain energy they had consumed to an unknown location. Steel unlinks from Max's chest to analyze the situation. After McGrath mentions the creation of shields to protect their brains, the Ultralink quickly inspects the zombies. The group heads to the mysterious location after the zombies resume their attack.
Mortum captures Steel.
Arriving there, Max and his team unknowingly face Mortum, who is disintegrated after a powerful energy blast from C.Y.T.R.O.. McGrath inquiries a scientist, who reveals the identity of the creature, much to his surprise. After explaining the Connect-Tek incident involving Mortum, Steel realizes that the device granted him the ability of endlessly recreating himself. As the villain re-emerges, the Ultralink links with Max's chest and continues to develop their brain shield. The group attempts to defeat Mortum, but are taken down one by one. The villain tries to absorb their brainwaves, but Steel succeeds in creating their brain shields. He unlinks from Max's chest, claiming that his friends' brains were "off the menu". Intrigued by the Ultralink's alien technology, Mortum captures him and destroys his headquarters, leaving Max and his friends to perish.
Mortum dissects Steel.
Mortum, Steel and a horde of zombies head to the mountains, where the villain constructs a temple to serve as his new headquarters. To gain the power to absorb endless brain energy, Mortum begins to dissect Steel. During the dissection, the villain discovers the Ultralink's memory files, which project a hologram of Max, Rayne, Alex and C.Y.T.R.O.. Mortum refers to them as the "recently deceased", but Steel denies, insisting he can still feel they're alive. He electrocutes the Ultralink, and commands his horde to kill Max and Team Turbo. He continues with the dissection, and discovers Steel's T.U.R.B.O. energy bank. Based on it, he creates a brain energy bank.
Max finds Steel.
Hours later, Max and his team head to Mortum's temple, where they find a weakened Steel. Before they could save him, however, the villain emerges from the ground and confronts them. Alex, Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O. are eventually turned into zombies, but Max manages to escape while Mortum was distracted, and takes Steel and his pieces with him. He goes to Copper Canyon, where he tries to reassemble the Ultralink. After successfully reactivating him, McGrath reveals that Mortum had infected the entire planet with his techno-virus. He vents to Steel, claiming that Team Turbo looked up to him and that he got them captured. The Ultralink comforts McGrath, telling him that Team Turbo didn't follow him because he was always right, but because he was a good person and a good leader. He adds that Maxwell has a "funny habit at bringing the best in people". Suddenly, they are attacked by a brainwashed Rayne, who chases them throughout Copper Canyon. They succeed in outwitting her, but are soon attacked by Alex and then C.Y.T.R.O.. They retreat into the sewers, where they realize that they could use their T.U.R.B.O. energy to disrupt Mortum's technology and potentially free Team Turbo from his control.
Steel's transceivers.
Before Max could fully assemble Steel, they are attacked by the brainwashed Team Turbo. They eventually manage to escape from them, and McGrath fixes the Ultralink, who bonds with him and creates Turbo Hunter Mode, as well as three T.U.R.B.O. receivers. After successfully implanting them on Rayne, Alex and C.Y.T.R.O., Max uses his energy to free them from Mortum's control. As they prepare to leave the sewers, Max and his friends suddenly speak in unison, saying the same words as McGrath. He inquiries Steel, who reveals that they now had a mental link, much to their surprise. They head to Mortum's temple, where they use their new powers to destroy him. However, due to his Connect-Tek power, the villain recreates himself as a giant, scorpion-like abomination. While trying to neutralize him, Steel realizes that a T.U.R.B.O. projectile fired by Max at the energy sphere Mortum's abdomen had affected the villain. They attempt to attack his weak spot, but Mortum overwhelms them. Using their mental link, Rayne, Alex and C.Y.T.R.O. share their powers with Max, creating Turbo Mega Mode. With his new power, McGrath defeats Mortum by impaling his abdomen with the Connect-Tek sword and destroying the villain's brain energy bank.
Max and his team watch over Copper Canyon.
With the world back to normal, Max and his allies watch over Copper Canyon from the mountains on their motorcycles. They once again speak in unison, much to McGrath's annoyance, before riding off into the sunset.
Steel is permanently unlinked from Max by Terrorax.
Max Steel and Team Turbo invade an abandoned warehouse to find hostages, only to find it completely deserted. Suddenly, various energy cubes begin to emerge from the ground. The group attempts to fend them off, but their T.U.R.B.O. energy are drained, causing them to faint. A restrained Max and Steel later wake up in a white chamber, where he is approached by a masked figure who refuses to reveal his name. The duo joke about the situation, prompting the villain to mention their "legendary banter". He uses a machine to permanently unlink Steel from Max's chest and begins to torture McGrath. After collecting samples of his power, Max deliberately begins to generate large amounts of T.U.R.B.O. energy, causing the room and its electronic apparels to explode.
Max later wakes up at the Copper Canyon mountains. He is contacted by Steel, who was stuck beneath boulders. After freeing him, they attempt to Ultralink, but are unable to. They head to their new, unfinished headquarters, where Rayne, Alex and a damaged C.Y.T.R.O. were. As they enter their base, Steel instructs Max to go to their diagnostics lab, claiming that McGrath's energy had went through a "radical metamorphosis". While he attempted to master his new power, Steel conducted an analysis and Alex, Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O. continued with the construction of their headquarters. The Ultralink later sets up a holographic versions of the Elementors for Max to fight. He attempts to activate Turbo Strength Mode, but Steel reminds him that he no longer had that mode. He pauses the simulation, instructing Max that, the more T.U.R.B.O. he generated, the stronger he would be. He resumes it, and McGrath successfully defeats the Elementors.
Max and Steel talk.
A curious McGrath later reunites with Steel, asking him why his energy changed. The Ultralink explains that he had went far beyond his limits during his encounter with the masked figure, resulting him in unlocking a new power. Steel reveals that, while his systems could handle small amounts of green T.U.R.B.O, his new power was too potent for him, preventing him fully bonding with him. McGrath comforts the Ultralink, claiming that they always would be a team, regardless of how much things changed. They are approached by Alex, who claimed that Rayne had found the identity of the masked individual: the billionaire Dr. Prometheus Halifax. As Max and his team prepare to investigate the headquarters of his business, Steel reveals he had built new Connect-Tek armors for them to use, as well as the Cyclo-Spin Bike for Max, which he dubbed as "Steel-Tek".
Steel finds the Terror energy wave emitters.
While Max and Alex dealt with Prometheus, who had injected Terror energy into himself and mutated into a monster, Steel instructed Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O. in gathering information from the penthouse of the Halifax Industries building. After a disastrous battle against Terrorax (Prometheus' new identity), Max and his team head back to their headquarters. Steel analyzes one of McGrath's Turbo Gauntlets and discovers that Terror energy is capable of destroying technology in a molecular level. While holding one of his gauntlets, Max accidentally uncovers that his energy seemingly acts as an opposite to Terrorax's power. With this in mind, Max uses his energy to reactivate C.Y.T.R.O., who was deactivated during Team Turbo's battle against Terrorax. He succeeds, but passes out in exhaustion. Meanwhile, Steel analyzes the data they had stolen and discovered three Terror energy emitters located outside Copper Canyon.
Max and his team split up and head to the location of the emitters, only to find a Terror-powered assassin waiting for them. Terrorax hacks into their frequency and introduces his minions to them. After Max and Team Turbo succeed in defeating them, Steel contacts them and reveals he had found out Terrorax's location. Eventually, Max and his team succeed in defeating Terrorax and foiling his plans.
At the Copper Canyon beach, Steel humorously narrates Steel-Tek's first "annual wild water open" to Rayne, Alex and C.Y.T.R.O. while they surf. After Max enters the scene, he contacts Steel, telling him he should be there with them. Steel declines, stating he would rather study Ultralink algorithms, security protocols and "nerd tech". As a tsunami rapidly forms, Steel runs a quick analysis, claiming that there was no seismic activity nor any tsunami warnings. With the Ultralink distracted, a weakened Terrorax invades their headquarters, leaving various bombs scattered across the corridors. After Max and Team Turbo stop the tsunami and learning that the Elementors were behind it, Terrorax activates the bomb, knocking out Steel.
Steel and a mutated Alex.
Max and Team Turbo later head back to their headquarters, where Rayne takes care of Steel and he explains what had happened to them. After Terrorax hacks the electronical devices around the world, Max and his team gear up to stop him and his Pantheon. However, they are intercepted by Team Terror, Terrorax's assassins. They are eventually defeated, with Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O. being captured and Alex being transformed into a bionic panther due to bite from Night Howl. Max returns to Team Turbo's headquarters, where Steel analyzes Alex's new form, learning that his cells were being corrupted by "bio-nanites". He warns Max that, in case they failed to revert Alex's mutation, he would be permanently stuck as a bionic panther. McGrath suggests the creation of an anti-body, of which Steel approves. Max prepares to invade the Pantheon. Using his Turbo Sniper Mode, he mentions several exponential towers pumping Terror energy to the Ultralink.
After successfully invading the Pantheon, Max succeeds in restoring Alex's humanity and saving Rayne and Alex. Before he could help them in their battle against the Terror-powered Elementors, Max is blasted off from the ship by Water. He activates Turbo Mountain Attack Mode and slowly gets to the top of the Pantheon. After arriving, Steel drops a large package containing the Turbo Mobile and several disc-shaped devices inside. He instructs Max on how to use them, informing that they needed to be placed under a time limit of twenty seconds. McGrath gets inside of the vehicle and successfully implants them, despite Terrorax's interference. As a result, Steel takes control of the Pantheon, and redirects it to the sea.
After the Elementors and Terrorax are defeated, the Pantheon begins to self-destruct. Steel contacts Max and Team Turbo, telling them to escape.
Linking Abilities: Being an Ultralink, Steel can bond with organic and inorganic materials and weaponize its host. In his case, he is bonded to Maxwell McGrath. Unlike others of his kind, however, Steel forms a symbiotic relationship with his host, in which Max provides T.U.R.B.O. energy, and the Ultralink feeds on it and harnesses it on combat. By linking with Max, his body is enveloped by a white-black-blue armor named Steel Suit, which offers him protection for combat and can morph into various types of battle armors named Turbo Modes.
Turbo Modes Creation: Steel is capable of creating various battle armors with varied powers to combat their adversaries. These armors can enhance Max's strength, speed, durability or even turn him invisible. Additionally, Steel has his own Turbo Mode, Turbo Mimic Mode, that allows him to copy and adapt Max's armors for himself and actively participate on the battlefield.
Host Weaponization: Steel is capable of arming or improving its host for combat, either by creating Turbo Modes or by linking with weapons designed by Berto and Turbofying them.
Full Control of the Host: Steel can fully control Max's actions and movements. He often has problems in controlling his legs and fingers, as he never had them.
Hovering: Steel can float mid-air like others of his kind. He can also disable this function, as seen in Earth Under Siege Part One.
Telepathy: Steel could communicate telepathically with his host, Maxwell McGrath. The two could communicate even when separated from each other, as exemplified in Cleaning House. After Terrorax separated the two, Steel lost this ability, but he embedded a communicator on Max and his team's Steel-Tek gear.
T.U.R.B.O. Energy Control/Suppression: Steel is capable of controlling Maxwell's T.U.R.B.O. energy. His alien technology allows him to damp McGrath's energy signals, preventing villains from tracking them down.
T.U.R.B.O. Energy Projection: Steel can project T.U.R.B.O., being capable of releasing small blasts of energy through the tip of his arms and eye and create small shockwaves. However, excessive use will cause his energy bank to be depleted.
Ultralink Scanner: As seen in My Best Friend is an Ultralink, Steel has a scanner that is able to localize others of his kind.
GPS: A function unlocked after the events of Makino Strikes Part Two, it allows Max to go to an specific location by giving him the directions and also shows threats that are getting close.
Communicator: As seen in Reprogrammed, Steel has a communicator that he uses to call other people as well as listen to police frequencies for robberies.
Hypnosis: As seen in the episode Split Decisions, Steel can hypnotize people by showing a spiral of his eye like he did with Berto.
Superhuman Durability: Steel was able to withstand many hits and drops without being damaged and high doses of electricity, plus it is waterproof and breathable underwater.
Scanner: Steel has a scanner where he can analyze substances and other things.
Sonar: Steel has a sonar that he can use to detect nearby objects in the water.
Flashlight: In the episode Gone Fishin, Steel is shown to be able to project a flashlight. He used a blue light coming out of his eye to illuminate dark areas underwater.
Arsenal[]
T.U.R.B.O. Energy Bank: Steel has a small chip on his forehead region responsible for storing limitless amounts of Max's T.U.R.B.O. energy.
Skills[]
Genius-Level Intellect: Being an advanced alien life form, Steel is smarter than an average individual. He can easily do Max's homework, fix Sydney's broken cellphone in minutes and hacking control panels of Makinian technoogy or N-Tek's ships. He was also capable of decrypting the heavily encrypted files of the Turbo Star.
Weaknesses[]
T.U.R.B.O. Energy Shortage: Steel will be permanently deactivated if he runs out of T.U.R.BO. energy. This will happen if Steel is more than eight hours without linking with Max. When he is running out of energy, he is unable to function properly and an image of a battery with one stripe appears on his screen.
Green T.U.R.B.O. Energy: After his encounter with Terrorax, Maxwell began to generate a stronger, green-colored version of his T.U.R.B.O. energy. Steel is unable to properly control this variation of his power due to how potent it is, comparing it to "trying to link with a small sun" during a conversation with McGrath. Despite this, Steel's systems are able to handle small amounts of green T.U.R.B.O. energy, allowing him to survive.
Virus: Steel's systems are vulnerable to certain viruses, as seen in The Legend of Ja'em Mk'rah when he was infected with a technological virus and affected his programming, causing him to activate random Turbo Modes and being unable to contain Max's energy. In Reprogrammed, the Ultralinks developed a reconfiguring virus to reboot Steel to his factory settings, but his link with Maxwell botched it, causing the two to switch bodies.
Dizziness: The Turborang, one of Max and Steel's turbo techniques, leaves Steel dizzy after its use.
Ultralink Hunter's Weapons: Steel, being an Ultralink, is vulnerable to Ven-Ghan's weapons, which would be capable of permanently unlinking him from Maxwell.
Terrorax's Unlinking Machine: In Turbo-Charged, Terrorax utilized a machine that permanently severed the link between Max and Steel.
Appearance[]
Steel's "torso" is enveloped by a white armor with an opening on its front, top and sides. He has a black-colored area on the front, in which his light blue eye is located. When he talks, a small area on the lower part of his body lights up. He has a pair of black-colored arms with white armor plating and blue-colored openings with an hexagon pattern. He has a blue-colored opening on the top of his body featuring the same hexagon pattern and his back features a V-shaped white-colored area with a smaller, blue-colored V-shaped detail inside.
When linked to Maxwell's chest, Steel assumes the appearance of a blue stylized M-shaped logo. The Ultralink lights up whenever he talks.
Steel can also project emoticons on his face, such as an exclamation mark, a question mark, an X, a stylized drawing of a battery, among others.
Personality[]
This section is under construction. Help Max Steel Reboot Wiki by expanding it.
Unlike other evil Ultralinks, Steel was a pacifist, as he refused to absorb and expand and questioned why his race should do such thing. He was shown to be clumsy, as he wasn't capable of properly remembering the quote "absorb and expand". Upon meeting Jim, he mentions that there was no glory in annihilating the lives of innocent people, which makes Steel question his ways. He ultimately bonds with the Takonian, claiming that he was different than other of his kind. Together, they became the superhero Max Steel and stopped many of Makino's invasions, which in turn made other Ultralinks consider Steel as a traitor. Like his host, he seeked justice for everyone, but this led to him being shut down.
After sixteen years being dormant, Steel wakes up and bonds with Maxwell McGrath. Initially, both were very reluctant in needing each other to survive (especially Max, claiming that he was essentially partnered with a toaster), but eventually they became good friends. Throughout the series, Steel and Max have shown a desire to know more about their past, which N-Tek agents refused to talk about, especially Forge. This led Steel to do many risky things, which often made Forge feel angry and led to constant discussions. In Supermania, Steel creates a Turbo Super Mode based on stereotypical superheroes which was considered awkward by Max and other N-Tek agents, but he stated that he only created it because superheroes also didn't knew where they came from, which was the same situation that Steel found himself in. Eventually, Steel discovers about the true intentions of his kind and stays deeply upset, as he considered himself nothing but a weapon made to mass destruction and almost resigned from N-Tek.
On the other hand, Steel is a sassy, convinced, good with mechanics and is known to be sarcastic and to make clever and witty remarks. In a friendly way, Steel is provocative towards other people, such as with Max and sometimes makes jokes about their traits, such as when he said that Berto's hair was "weird".
"Scary man is creeping me out, Max! Give him all you've got!" — Come Together Part Three
"Anymore bad ideas? — Come Together Part Three
"Cowabunga!" — Come Together Part Three
"No, I'm not like that. I ... It doesn't compute, none of it! But what can one Ultralink do against such reckless hate!?" — The Legend of Ja'em Mk'rah

Graphic novels[]
"Two heads are better than one, unless one belongs to a stubborn teenager and the other belongs to a headstrong alien. Somehow, these two have to learn to cooperate as one entity, superhero Max Steel, protector of the universe!" — Max and Steel's character bio
Max and Steel graphic novel profile.
Steel and Max appear in all three graphic novel volumes. In The Parasites, the duo go after Professor Connors, one of Jim McGrath's friends, in hopes of getting answers about their pasts. While talking to him, however, he suddenly faints and wakes up shortly after, silently leaving his home. Steel and Max chase him, eventually ending up in an abandoned building. They confront Jason Naught after discovering that he had developed parasites to steal vital N-Tek information. At some point during the fight, Connors regains his conscience and helps Steel and Max to foil the plans of the villain.
In Hero Overload, a trio of superheroes named Super Brawl Strikeforce appear in Copper Canyon. After they help Max Steel to take down Miles Dread, they request the hero to mentor them. While initially reluctant, he accepts it and they begin to combat crime as a team. During their battles, however, Max and Steel mysteriously begin to have trouble switching between Turbo Modes. They eventually discover that the Super Brawl Strikeforce were equipped with siphoning gloves that scrambled with their powers. Dread is later revealed to be the one who had gifted them with armors, and decides to mind control them to take down Max Steel. However, the hero manages to free them from Miles and they take down the villain.
In Haywire, the Megalink Zelak comes to Earth and, with the aid of the Elementors, infects Copper Canyon's technology with a dangerous virus that causes it to malfunction. After it begins to spread, Steel, Max and Molly head to N-Tek's mountain base. They later track down the place where the infection had begun and, while Max and Ferrus face the Elementors, Steel heads to the virus terminal and deactivates it.
Steel is featured in Rise of Elementor. He occasionally unlinks from Max's chest to deactivate a device nearby during certain areas from the game.
Steel appears as a playable character in Hero's Journey. In some sections of the game, Steel unlinks from Max's chest to traverse small passages and unlock the path for the player to continue.
Steel appears in Turbo Reload. He sometimes unlinks from Max's chest, providing information and tips for the player. The player can also launch Steel at the enemies, simulating the Turborang move from the series.
Steel is featured in Steel Defense as the protagonist. He faces countless evil Ultralinks throughout the game.
Steel is featured in Ultralink Invasion as a non-playable character. He greets the player when they open the app and congratulates them after capturing Ultralinks.
Toys[]
Steel appears linked to Max's chest in almost every single action figure of Max Steel released from 2013 to 2016. He is made in translucent plastic, and, in some cases, can be removed from Maxwell's chest.
Steel appeared as the trophy of the Turbo Team tournament in the official website, hosted during the tail end of the classic Max Steel saga era.
Behind the Scenes[]
Steel is an original creation made exclusively for the reboot series. He replaces the Biolink, a technological device from the classic series.
In the 2000s continuity, the Biolink is a technological device that regulated and controlled Josh McGrath/Max Steel's powers. By shouting "Going Turbo!", Max gained a temporary boost of strength and speed. It also had a Stealth Mode, which could be activated by pressing a button or saying the name of the mode out loud. It had several iterations over the course of the classic series, being initially designed as a bracelet. In the movie Max Steel Vs The Mutant Menace, the Biolink was redesigned, gaining a modern look and covering Max's left chest and arm. When Max shouted his motto, a protective suit was generated, and any N-Tek weapon he held, such as guns, would be improved.
Steel's design went through various changes during the development of the series.[9][10][11]
The official website stated that Steel's age was 326 mechcycles old, which is 16 in Earth years. However, this information is inaccurate to the show itself, due to the fact that this would mean that Steel would have to have been created around the same time Max was born, whereas it is shown during Steel's flashback that Steel was active during the battle of Takion, before Jim and Molly even met.
Steel tends to flirt with inanimate objects, such as security cameras, snack machines and AIs like T.J.. As seen in A Germ of an Idea, Steel even named a snack machine on Max's school as "Doris".
Steel when he is totally visibleAs seen in The Great Turbo Star Caper, Steel is able to bond with Max's link port and remain fully visible rather than as a stylized logo.
Besides his personality and behavior, Steel's design is quite unique among others of his kind. In The Legend of Ja'em Mk'rah, when he was about to link with Jim, he projected hexagons while other Ultralinks project triangles. An hexagon pattern is also seen in the blue parts of Steel's body and Turbo Modes transformations. His eye is also slightly different than those of other Ultralinks.
The reason for Steel's behavior might be due to the fact that he has a humor syntax chip, shown in Team Turbo Fusion-Tek while Mortum was dismembering him. However, it is unknown why Makino ever put this chip on him.
Steel plays Max Steel: Turbo Warrior under the nickname of AwesomeAksteel. His first avatar was Ven-Ghan, and he stated that he modeled him.
Steel is also a playable character in the game.
Steel had a profile on the series' official website.[1] After the site's overhaul in 2016, his profile was removed. Instead, he and Maxwell shared the same profile, being treated as one character: Max Steel.
Even though that Steel can perfectly control Max's body (like on Come Together Part One or Earth Under Siege Part Two), he had trouble controlling it in Reprogrammed when he switched bodies with his host.
In Got Turbo Star?, Steel unlocks new memories from his past thanks to Jim's recording on the previous episode. He states that he hated squirrels, had a silent mode and remembered about the location of the third piece of the Turbo Star.
In Thanks, I Think, Steel says the phrase "Makino have mercy" despite not knowing anything about Makino due to his memories being wiped, suggesting that not everything was deleted.
In the third volume of the graphic novels, Haywire, Steel actively refers to the planet Makino.
Steel and Max were the only individuals on the Earth to not be infected by Mortum's techno-zombie virus in Team Turbo Fusion-Tek.
Steel, Max and the Elementors are the only characters to appear in every season of the series.
According to Makino himself in The Wrath of Makino, Steel's "limited imagination" hindered Maxwell's true potential, preventing him from correctly using his power.
Notes[]
After the release of Turbo-Warriors, Steel is incorrectly depicted as green in several promotional materials for the series, including a poster for the film.[12] This change never occurred in the animated series. In his last appearance, Steel still had his usual blue coloring on his armor.
