In January, the Max Steel official website began to tease the reboot series. A tournament named as Turbo Team was added, which featured virtual prizes based on characters and items from the upcoming series. By achieving 1,500,000 points, users would obtain a trophy of Steel, the Turbo Sword and a N-Tek Hopper. Some of the parts of the site also glowed blue, referencing Maxwell's T.U.R.B.O. Energy. After the Turbo Team tournament ended, a popup was added advertising the new series, which featured three sections: Watch Video, See More and FAQ. A countdown was also added, which would end in February 26, 2013, which marked when the site would be overhauled. Concurrently a mini website was created to promote the series: www.maxsteel2013.com[1]. Cartoon Network also released a website featuring downloadable wallpapers from the series, along with the Unite short.[2]

The overhauled site on March 1, 2013.

In March 1, 2013, the site was completely overhauled to match the new visual identity of the series. It was available in 20 languages. There were six accessible areas:

  • Games: As its name suggests, it featured games based on the series. Initially, only Hero's Journey and Turbo Reload were available.
  • Videos: A section that hosted promotional videos, Bonus Clips and episodes.
  • N-Tek Files: A section that featured bios for characters, Turbo Modes, vehicles and more.
  • N-Tek Lab: A section that featured downloadable content, such as coloring pages, papercrafts (referred toas "constructables") and wallpapers. The user could also create its own Ultralink through the Ultralink Editor.
  • Toys: A section that showcased the toys of the series. For some time, this section was listed as "confidential".
  • Parents: A section of the website that presents the franchise and the website to parents, highlighting its positive values.

Over the course of the year, the site was constantly updated with new content as the series progressed. When new villains were introduced to the series, such as Ultimate Elementor for example, the site played a short video of the character attacking the user's screen. The website also hosted tournaments, in which the user could pick one of the five teams (Turbo-Nators, Team Turbo, Flight Patrol, Copper Canyon Kings, and Agents United) and play games to earn points for their chosen team. The winning team gained a virtual trophy, which could be displayed on the user's profile. By playing games, the user could also unlock content on the site, such as production stills, pictures, and more, as well as gaining badges. Concurrently, several test sites were also created so developers could test the content before going live.[3]

The website during July 2014.

In early 2014, the site was updated with content related to the series' second season, such as bios for new characters like Ven-Ghan, the Evil Ultralinks and Metal Elementor. The site also promoted the new mobile game Ultralink Invasion in a special section of the site. Bonus clips, new games and new bios were regularly added on the website, and the tournaments were still being held. In April, profiles for the new toys were added. In December, the website held its last tournament. From 2015 and onwards, the tournaments were no longer being held. As a result, the unlockable content that previously required users to play games was now freely accessible. In early 2015, new profiles for the toys were added, and the toys from previous years were categorized into their respective sections.

2016[]

In February, the website went through an overhaul, gaining a simplified look. It was divided in five sections: Home, Games, Videos, N-Tek Files and Toys. The site permanently removed its registration feature, badges and unlockable content. Several games, being them Hero's Journey, Turbo Reload, Turbo Takedown and Turbo Run, were removed as well. New bios were added for Team Turbo and Morphos, were rewritten, such as Maxwell and Extroyer's, and others were removed, such as Sydney Gardner and Kirby Kowalski's. Additionally, it was available in four languages: Brazilian Portuguese, English, Spanish and Turkish.

In early 2016, the 2015 trilogy and Team Turbo were released on the website. They were split into 2-3 minutes parts and released weekly on the official website, as well as the OfficialMaxSteel YouTube channel.

2017-2022[]

In March, the site was updated to match the new green T.U.R.B.O. energy from the TV series. The overall structure of the site remained the same. Older games from the blue T.U.R.B.O. energy era were removed, saving for Steel Defense, Ultralinks Attack and N-Tek Invasion.

In 2018, the website was overhauled again, gaining a streamlined look. It was divided in four sections: Games, Videos, N-Tek Files and Shop. Its domain was changed to "play.maxsteel.com" at some point. Over the years it remained mostly the same, although more games were removed, leaving only Turbo 360, Match and Destroy and N-Tek Invasion.

As of 2022, the website is no longer accessible.

Website Features[]

  • Games: Featured playable browser games.
  • Videos: Bonus Clips, commercials, toy videos, trailers, episodes and movies were hosted in this section.
  • N-Tek Files: This section initially was divided in four categories: Classified Bios, Turbo Modes, Vehicles and Weapons. Additionally, a fifth section was meant to be introduced at some point, which likely focused on locations of the series based on the imagery it displayed. From 2016 onwards, N-Tek Files were divided in four categories: Team Turbo, N-Tek Agents, Villains and Modes and Weapons.
  • Toys: This section showcased the action figures and other products released by Mattel. They were organized in lists showing a small picture of the toy. By clicking it, the user was directed to a profile page for the toy, featuring a short bio and a 360° view of the product. The latter was removed after 2014, however. In 2016, the section was simplified, no longer displaying a short bio for the toy. It was rebranded to Shop in the later updates of the site.
  • Removed Features: Features that were removed after the site's overhaul.
    • Ultralink Creator mockup

N-Tek Lab/Ultralink Creator: Initially present from 2013 to 2015, this section featured downloadable content, such as papercrafts, wallpapers and coloring pages. Additionally, the user could create its own Ultralink via the Ultralink Creator.
    • Profile: It showcased the information about the user, such as their badges, game scores, the Ultralink created by them, and trophies. It could be only viewed by other registered users.

Tournaments[]

The site hosted ten tournaments from 2013 to 2014. The tournaments featured a central villain or theme, such as Toxzon or Max's Turbo Modes. After the user registered, they could choose between five teams: Turbo-Nators, Team Turbo, Flight Patrol, Copper Canyon Kings, and Agents United. By playing games and earning scores, the user would help their team to reach the top to obtain virtual trophies.

In 2013, five tournaments were made.

In 2014, other five were made, mostly being themed around the Ultralink Invasion.

Trivia[]

  • The old incarnation of Elementor made a temporary cameo in the official website from 2013 to 2015.
