“ A Turbo powered boy and a functional Ultralink? This is my lucky day.
—Miles Dread, Come Together Part Three
Miles Dread (sometimes mistaken as Dredd) is one of Max Steel's archnemeses and a major antagonist in Max Steel, also acting as the main antagonist in the first season. One of Max's most dangerous and powerful enemies, Miles is a power-hungry and treacherous megalomaniac capable of absorbing Max's T.U.R.B.O. Energy to power himself. His armor allows him to create multiple weapons, such as cannons and energy balls, as well providing him with superhuman conditions.
Miles is one of N-Tek's co-creators along with Forge Ferrus, Molly McGrath and Jim McGrath. After he realized how powerful the T.U.R.B.O. Energy was, Dread created a siphoning device to harness its power for his own gain. He used it while Jim and Steel were testing the Turbo Star, which led to a massive explosion that nearly killed the duo and embedded the device on his chest. Ever since, Miles requires T.U.R.B.O. energy in order to survive. When the second Max Steel arose, Miles intended to keep him as a prisoner so he could feed off his energy, though his plans were thwarted by N-Tek. He would continuously clash with Max Steel and N-Tek, and was allied with the Ultralinks. His efforts would eventually culminate into a full-blown Ultralink invasion, which was stopped by Max and N-Tek.
In hopes of overpowering the leader of the Ultralinks, Makino, and put Earth at his mercy, Miles Dread and Jason Naught began their search for the three pieces of the Turbo Star. The villain and Max fought multiple times, but Miles came out victorious in the end and managed to get all the pieces. In a risky move, Max and Steel managed to recover the Turbo Star from Miles' hands.
After Makino's defeat, Miles revives one of N-Tek's old projects: Morphos, a shapeshifting creature created specifically to destroy Max Steel and N-Tek once and for all. While the monster was initially used by Dread for his own gain, Morphos later on developed his own conscience and goals, plus a deep hatred for Miles after being betrayed by his own creator. He became a major threat for Earth, forcing Miles to form an uneasy alliance with Max and his rogues to stop Morphos. Ever since Morphos' defeat, Miles hasn't been seen.
Miles Dread debuted in Come Together Part One and is voiced by Mark Oliver.
History[]
Early Life[]
Nothing is known about Dread's early life before N-Tek's creation. However, due to his businessman skills, it is possible that he became rich at some point. As such, it is possible that he was N-Tek's financial banker.
Miles Dread was one of N-Tek's co-founders alongside Jim McGrath, Molly McGrath and Forge Ferrus. The secret agency was created to protect Earth from Makino's upcoming invasion. They began to work on various projects to stop the villain and his armada, such as the Turbo Star and Morphos, with the latter being cancelled due to its immense power. As such, the team opted to use the Turbo Star.
During the first Ultralink invasion, Dread was absent. During an undetermined period of time and through unknown means, he contacted Makino and other Ultralinks and managed to get their trust and become their ally.
After realizing the endless possibilities of Jim's T.U.R.B.O. energy, Dread built a siphoning device capable of harnessing its power for his own gain. During the Turbo Star test, Miles used the device and caused a massive explosion, which resulted in the apparatus getting stuck on his chest. Jim was nearly killed and Steel was shut down. The accident caused Miles to need T.U.R.B.O. energy in order to survive.
Afterwards, Dread managed to escape from N-Tek's headquarters and hid himself. Meanwhile, Forge and other N-Tek agents assumed that he had been kiled during the incident alongside Jim. However, Miles was still alive. During an undetermined period of time, he founded THI and set up various shell corporations to hide the company's assets, such as Paragon Research.[2] He bio-mechanically enhanced a man named Jason Naught to work for him, who became THI's CEO and secretly used the company's resources to obtain Ultralink pods.
Season 1[]
Come Together Part One[]
Jason Naught, Miles' right hand man, is in charge of obtaining Ultralink pods for Dread. After his plans were thwarted by N-Tek, he contacted Miles, who was extremely angry at his failure. He threatened Naught and showed him a countdown. If he didn't obtained a T.U.R.B.O. energy source in time before it ended, both Miles and Jason would perish. Later on, a THI worker picks up a T.U.R.B.O. energy source and shows to Naught.
Naught contacts Dread to reveal what his crew had found. He commands Jason to cease the Ultralink capture operations and tells him that he knew a hunter for the job. He contacts Fire Elementor, who initially threatened to kill Miles. He persuades the Ultralink, telling him that he had an assignment that was beneficial for both of them.
Come Together Part Two[]
After Fire fails to capture Maxwell and Steel, the T.U.R.B.O. energy source, Dread sends him and Earth Elementor to wreak havoc at Copper Canyon city. After a long battle, Max is captured by Earth and is taken to THI. The boy awakens later on and Miles reveals that he had "big plans" for him. He puts on his helmet and proceeds to absorb Max's T.U.R.B.O. energy to power him up. Now stronger, Miles laughs maniacally while McGrath faints.
Come Together Part Three[]
After a few hours, Max awakens. After being questioned as to why he was doing that, Miles reveals that it was for his thirst for power. He talks about his history with N-Tek and the T.U.R.B.O. energy, coldly remembering how he betrayed his own friend. After mentioning Jim McGrath's name, Max gets extremely angry and begins to generate more T.U.R.B.O. energy. Miles absorbs it, leaving McGrath exhausted. Luckily, Steel manages to invade Dread's lair and free Max. They attempt to escape, but Miles manages to separate the Ultralink from Max while the latter falls from the top of the THI tower to the ground.
Steel comments about Miles' twisted humor, but he ignores it and states that Max had given him enough power for a long while. He states that he had plans for Steel, who attacks him with T.U.R.B.O. energy rays. He absorbs the energy from Ultralink, causing it to get unconscious. He contacts Naught and tells him to proceed with their original plan. He places Steel on a device and the top of THI tower opens, revealing an antenna. Dread powers up the device and it releases various energy tendrils that ensnare Copper Canyon citizens. Dread places himself in a chamber and empowers himself, causing his armor plates to expand and give him a new super-charged form. Shortly after, Jason contacts him and reveals that N-Tek's forces were invading the THI tower. Annoyed, Dread told him to deal with them and to not disturb him again.
While N-Tek deals with a Dread Naught army, Max quickly goes to Dread's lair. After arriving, he inspects the place and finds Steel. After a short fight against Miles, Max deactivates the device and frees Steel. Max activates Turbo Strength Mode and engages in combat with Dread, but he is quickly overpowered. After tossing Max from the top of the THI tower, Forge and Molly attack Miles, but he ignores them and decides to go after McGrath and Steel.
The two engage in combat once again, with Miles having the upper hand. Max realizes that Dread could only absorb limited amounts of T.U.R.B.O. energy and decides to take advantage of this. He goes Turbo Flight and carries Dread with him to space while he overloads him with T.U.R.B.O. energy. Before Miles' defeat, Max tells him that Jim sent regards. Ultimately, Dread explodes and his body is left on space. He is later rescued by Jason Naught.
Secret Identity Crisis[]
Miles is still recovering from his last battle against Max Steel. Meanwhile, Jason is attempting to discover Max Steel's secret identity. He eventually comes to the conclusion that the hero was Butch, one of Copper Canyon High School's students. After the Dread Naughts failed to capture Butch at the school, Miles decides to go after him by himself.
Miles attacks the students while they were on a school trip. After destroying the bridge, he enters on the bus and locates Butch. He places his hands on Butch's head in an attempt of absorbing T.U.R.B.O. energy, but nothing happens. Angry, he contacts Naught and Butch overhears them talking about someone named Max. He points at McGrath, causing Dread to instantly recognize him due to his resemblance to Jim. He punches Max out of the bus, causing him to fall off a cliff. However, he activates Turbo Flight Mode and invites Miles to a fight.
Max and Dread engage in combat. He attempts to use the same strategy that he used before to defeat the villain, but Miles reveals that he had made some modifications to his battle suit, allowing him to absorb limitless amounts of T.U.R.B.O. energy. He claims that what happened last time wouldn't happen again and proceeds to absorb Max's power to become stronger, transforming into his super-powered form. He continues his battle, until Sydney interferes. Miles isn't impressed however, and releases a small energy burst near her, causing her to fall. Max manages to push Dread away and Steel comes up with a plan. The hero activates Turbo Strength Mode and proceeds to throw various large rocks at Miles, who uses his energy reserves to destroy them. He then launches Steel as a Turborang at the mountains, causing an explosion and various rocks to fall at Dread, thus depowering him. Max delivers the finishing blow and Miles is buried beneath rocks, but he quickly gets up.
Miles attempts to attack the bus, but he is ran over by the vehicle. N-Tek's forces arrive and corner Dread. Max declares that it was over, but Dread tells him otherwise, stating that he knew who he was beneath the mask. A holographic copy of Maxwell, controlled by Berto, climbs up the mountain, confusing Dread. Forge points a blaster to Miles, who throws himself off a cliff while laughing. A THI airship then appears and rescues him.
The Thrill of the Hunt[]
Dread hires a mercenary named Troy Winter to steal an Ultralink from N-Tek. After doing so, Naught and Troy met so he could deliver the package. However, Jason claimed that it was not in working condition. Angered, Troy attempts to attack him and Naught drops a device that forms an hologram of Miles. Dread reassures him that the Ultralink was not a complete nor working item, but he could help him to obtain the missing parts.
Troy heads to THI and obtains the missing pieces. He later meets up with Jason, who, upon seeing it in a functional state, comments about its "raw power". Winter decides to keep the device for himself and electrocutes Jason, who faints. After Naught and his assistant leave, Troy enters his hideout and opens the package to learn how to use the Ultralink. Upon touching it, a holographic recording of Miles appears, revealing that he had foreseen that Troy would betray him and that he would pay the price. The Ultralink blows up, mutating Troy.
Extroyer Unleashed[]
Miles Dread confronts Troy, who now goes by the name of "Extroyer" after his mutation. He initially sends out Earth Elementor to deal with him, but the monster is quickly defeated. He easily defeats Extroyer with an energy ray and forms an alliance with him to fetch Max Steel.
Max and Steel later track down Extroyer. After a short battle, Miles reveals that the heroic duo had unknowingly powered up a Turbofied missile. Dread, as a hologram, provokes Max and Steel and releases the missile straight at Copper Canyon. However, they manage to stop it by directing it to space. After the explosion, Naught comments that they were going back to the drawing board, but Dread rebuffs, stating that they had learned the megaton force of the T.U.R.B.O. energy. Upon being asked about Extroyer, Miles stated that he was not as useful as he had hoped and commands Jason to build other missiles.
Live by the Sword[]
In an attempt of gaining unlimited power for himself, Naught attempted to obtain Murakami's mystical sword. Dread later contacts Naught and asks to see him. He reveals to have interrogated his lackey, Axel, and forced him to tell the truth about his plans. Angered at his attempted betrayal, Miles attacks both of them and tells them that they served only him before torturing them.

Dawn of Morphos[]
At his mansion, Dread is conducting the Project Morphos alongside with Jason Naught and few scientists. While interacting with Naught, he points out that they were generating victory by creating the ultimate weapon. After one of the scientists point out that everything was ready, Dread tells them to proceed. As the creature is brought to life, Dread watches at distance and laughs maniacally while shouting that it was alive. He approaches the monster and reveals that the Project Morphos wasn't so successful. Morphos reveals to have a conscience of his own and asks Dread what he was while referring to him as his father, much to Miles' annoyance. He shows a Max Steel hologram and reveals that he had programmed to him to have a deep hatred against the hero, much to Naught's surprise. He shows to Morphos a device that would complete him which he would only obtain by annihilating Max Steel.
While Max was at school, Dread manages to communicate him via Steel's Ultralink frequency and reveals that he had left a "gift" for him at downtown Copper Canyon, which is revealed to be Morphos. Max successfully defeats Morphos and Dread later on sets up a trap for Max and N-Tek at an abandoned warehouse. He forces him to fight against Morphos, who uses his own Turbo Modes against him to gain advantage. While he was fighting against the creature, Dread communicates with Max again and states that Morphos was the perfect organism, as he didn't needed to eat, sleep nor rest. Max is ultimately knocked down by the creature and Dread approaches him, mentioning that this would be their last battle and that he was going to take everything away from him by using his own powers. Morphos throws Max out of Copper Canyon using his super strength and Dread tells him that he is pleased. Morphos asks him what he would be his purpose after Max Steel was destroyed, though he refuses to tell him.
Morphos later on invades N-Tek's dam base and subdues its forces, allowing Dread to invade the place with an army of Dread Naughts. After capturing N-Tek's team, he teases Forge and mentions that Morphos would end them. The creature interupts him and requests answers, leading to a discussion between the two. Morphos states that they could conquer the world with N-Tek's resources and tells Dread that they were wasting their time with his petty vengeance. Angered, he states that his vengeance was the only reason why he was born, though Morphos rebuffs, stating that he could be much more. A fight ensues between the two and Morphos easily subdues Dread, nearly killing him in the process. Miles manages to convince him to settle down and commands him to fetch Molly McGrath's head.
Thanks to Max and Steel's Duo Strike, Morphos fails and returns to Dread's mansion in hopes of getting the answers about his existence. Miles is disappointed at Morphos for failing him and refuses him to give the device to him. He takes it by force and is ultimately destroyed. Before turning into a shapeless blob, Dread reveals that the piece was actually a security device created to destroy Morphos in case he went rogue. He stomps on the remains of the creature and tells him that he was nothing before going back to his mansion.
Maximum Morphos[]
Turbo-Warriors[]
Dread's helmet is seen in Team Turbo's vault. A painting of his mansion and his security device that he attempted to use in order to eliminate Morphos were seen as well.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- T.U.R.B.O Energy Absorption: Miles can absorb endless amounts of T.U.R.B.O. Energy using his hands and the more energy he absorbs, the more powerful he gets. Originally he could absorb a limited amount of energy, but he later had himself upgraded so he could absorb Max's T.U.R.B.O Energy with no limits. He has stated that with his energy levels at peak capacity he is capable of fighting all of N-Tek forces for hours. He can turn red without even absorbing T.U.R.B.O Energy from anyone.
- T.U.R.B.O Energy Conversion: When he absorbs T.U.R.B.O Energy, he automatically transforms it into Negative T.U.R.B.O Energy.
- Negative T.U.R.B.O. Energy Projection: Miles can project the energy absorbed in different forms and for different purposes:
- Flight: Dread can use fly using his hands and feet as jet boots propelled with T.U.R.B.O. Energy.
- Negative T.U.R.B.O. Energy Blasts: He can project blasts of anti T.U.R.B.O. Energy from his hands in order to fight, with great destructive power. He has also shown to shoot out energy like tentacles from his hands.
- Negative T.U.R.B.O. Energy Ball: He can generate a large ball of negative T.U.R.B.O energy that can inflict way more damage than his negative blasts.
- Superhuman Strength: He has shown to be as strong and sometimes even stronger than Max Steel. He is strong enough to crush rocks, as seen in Secret Identity Crisis when he and Max Steel fight to make Dread weak.
- Superhuman Durability: He can withstand blows from Max's attacks, energy blasts and even the high water pressures from the deep ocean.
- Superhuman Reflexes
- Superhuman Speed: With his latest upgrade he can run, move and react as fast and even faster than Max in his Turbo Speed Mode.
- Negative T.U.R.B.O. Energy Projection: Miles can project the energy absorbed in different forms and for different purposes:
- T.U.R.B.O Energy Conversion: When he absorbs T.U.R.B.O Energy, he automatically transforms it into Negative T.U.R.B.O Energy.
- Weaponized Body: Dread can make turn his hand into a powerful blaster.
Abilities[]
- Super-Genius Class Intelligence: Quite apart from the powers granted him by the Negative T.U.R.B.O. Energy, Miles Dread is far more than a mechanical engineering prodigy. He is easily one of the smartest people on earth. He is one of the co-founders of N-Tek, and a real genius He alone created a device to helps to absorb the T.U.R.B.O Energy, his Dredd Naughts, the bio-Android Jason Naught, and a wide ray of evil state of the art devices. Even Air Elementor has stated that he is smarter than he looks.
- Expert Businessman: Dread was extremely well-respected in the business world, who created the THI, a very successful company specialized in almost all kinds of technology, especially weapons. His company was a multi-million dollars company.
- Expert Tactician: He is a brilliant tactician capable of formulating battle strategies, like being able to elaborate different complex plans in order to defeat his enemies and even make them the responsibility for their own failure like when he tricked Max Steel and N-Tek into using Max's T.U.R.B.O. Energy to destroy his missiles, which ended in Max destroying N-Tek Transmitters leaving earth unprotected before the Ultralinks Invasion. Another example of his ability to manipulate situations can be seen when he tricked the Ultralinks so they would attack N-Tek's Copper Canyon base during their system upgrade in which they would be vulnerable due to their defense systems being down, but in actuallity they were fully prepare for any attack at the moment and used the Ultralinks' attack as a decoy to help Extroyer escape from his prison and retrieve intel about the Turbo Star from Forge's computer. He uses a similar strategy when giving them fake information about a Takion missile in an underwater base near the first piece of the Turbo Star, using the attack to cover his presence.
- Skilled Combatant: As shown plenty of times during his battles with Max Steel and N-Tek, Miles is a capable fighter who has managed to overcome Max Steel more than once.
Arsenal[]
- Dredd Naughts: Miles also possess an almost unlimited army of robots.
- Extractor Bugs: He has a swarm of robotic bugs that comes from his chest.
- Mechanical Wasp (temporarily): In Dredd Ascendant, Miles created a mechanical wasp to enter N-Tek's base and spy on them. It was later Extroyed by Extroyer.
Weaknesses[]
- Overloading (formerly): During his first battle against Max Steel he was overloaded by the unlimited amount of energy he stole from him getting overloaded..However after this encounter, he upgraded himself so he can absorb as much energy as he can produce.
- Loss of T.U.R.B.O Energy: When losing his T.U.R.B.O Energy, he is rendered weak and powerless.
- The T.U.R.B.O Energy-Absorbing Chamber> When he was in his new upgraded mode and was tricked by Steel, Max used Turbo Cannon Mode and then he pushed Dread into the chamber, which absorb all the energy and then it was destroyed by it.
Appearance[]
Miles Dread is a tall man with almost pale, white skin. He has straight, brown hair and red eyes. In the flashbacks, he was never seen with an N-Tek uniform like the rest of the N-Tek Agents, but he's been seen most of the times wearing black clothing consisting of black pants, a black suit, and black shoes.
He wears a suit that helps him control the T.U.R.B.O. Energy that he absorbs. The main mode of the suit is black with a few blotches with red in it (The Negative T.U.R.B.O. Energy) on the armor, which are locked on his knuckles, chest, shoulders, legs, arms, and head. The shoulders of the armor have sharp edges. In the center of his chest, he has a device that helps him siphon the T.U.R.B.O Energy, which has a diamond shape. He also has more of these diamond-shaped siphoning openings on the palm of his hands and the mouth piece of his helmet. His helmet has a sharp edge on the bottom that makes it look like a goatee.
In the T.U.R.B.O Energy mode of the suit, Miles Dread is increased in mass. The body armor has decreased in this mode, with only pieces a little bit of the armor all over the body. In his mode, Miles Dread is only able to siphon energy through his mouth and chest. The device is altered in this mode, with it showing the Negative T.U.R.B.O Energy inside (But still has its diamond shape). Also, the suit is surrounded by waves of Negative T.U.R.B.O Energy. He is also much more taller than his previous mode, having a similar height to Turbo Strength Mode.
In the upgraded version of the T.U.R.B.O Energy mode of his suit, he has much more mass increased than the previous mode and is a little bit more strength. He has a few pieces of his body armor, but everything is altered. Some of the pieces of armor have blotches of Negative T.U.R.B.O Energy. The device on his chest is also altered to a star-like shape (having four points and looking like an X), which is the same for the siphoning devices on the palm of his hands. As well as the helmet, having most of its armor in the mouthpiece and back, making it look like a samurai helmet. When absorbing energy, only the mouthpiece and three devices open (which make him look creepy). Almost, he has waves of Negative T.U.R.B.O Energy surrounding his body.
Personality[]
- Max: "Why are you doing this?"
- Dread: "Why? Hahaha, why does anyone do anything? For power!"
Miles Dread, is a sociopathic, cold and megalomaniac villain obsessed over power, being willing to do anything in order to obtain it. After perceiving the unlimited possibilities of Jim's T.U.R.B.O. energy, he betrays one of his friends to obtain said power source to harness it for his own personal gain. While revealing his past, Dread coldly remembers how he nearly killed one of his friends and shows no remorse for his actions, even being thankful for Jim indirectly making him the man that he is today. He is shown to have a deep hatred and disgust towards his former friends and allies, referring to Jim as "insufferable" and Molly as a "married widow". Dread shows no regards to others and only cares about himself. Miles has a fearless and charismatic nature, being shown as a confident individual while dealing with other characters. He is also shown to be rigid, short-tempered and authoritarian towards his henchmen, as exemplified in Live by the Sword when he attacked Naught and Axel and told them that they only served him.
Dread is an extremely intelligent individual and easily outsmarted N-Tek more than once. He is also shown to be manipulative and treacherous and has an obsession towards Max Steel due to the fact that he generates T.U.R.B.O. Energy, which is vital for his survival. After capturing him during the events of Come Together, Dread refers to him as his "new best friend" and maintains Max as a captive to drain his energy. After he absorbs it, he often uses euphemisms to describe the rush that Max's energy makes him feel and fights vigorously once he gets it, nearly being able to kill the hero almost every time they fought. Miles wishes to obtain all existing T.U.R.B.O. energy, not caring what means he has to use.
After the end of the Ultralink invasion and Makino's death, Miles proceeds to have revenge against N-Tek and Max Steel by creating Morphos, who was one of N-Tek's cancelled projects made to stop Makino. This action shows that he may use extreme methods to accomplish his revenge, as Morphos wasn't only considered a threat to Makino himself, but to the entire galaxy. Miles, on the other hand, revives the project out of pure spite for N-Tek and his constant defeats at the hands of Max Steel, highlighting his persistence and hatred. In Dawn of Morphos, it is shown that he has a maniac, insane, and merciless side, as seen when he sent Morphos to fetch Molly's head. In Maximum Morphos, it is shown that he likes the Goth style and shows a slightly more comic side, as when he made jokes about how much Morphos talks about his evil plans, just like him. In the same film, it is shown that Dread has many paintings and statues of himself, which reveals that he is narcissistic.
Relationships[]
Morphos[]
Dread and Morphos' relationship was very unstable. Dread saw him as the ultimate weapon that could kill Max Steel and take down N-Tek and its agents, considering also the main reason of why Morphos is alive. Meanwhile, Morphos sees him as his father and wanted his respect. Dread and Morphos constantly argued with each other, which once led to a violent fight that nearly ended with Miles dead. After Morphos failed to defeat Max, Dread uses a security device to kill the creature. Morphos manages to survive however, and vows revenge against Miles for his betrayal.
In Maximum Morphos, Morphos is shown to have developed a grudge and a deep hatred towards Dread. He tortures him and mutates his left hand into a monstrous hand similar to his. Despite the fact Morphos attempted to destroy Dread multiple times, Miles stated that he'd be proud of his creation if he wasn't out to kill him.
Max Steel[]
Max Steel is Dread's arch-nemesis. Due to the fact that Max generates T.U.R.B.O. Energy, Miles became obsessed with him and constantly tried to obtain this energy and nearly killed him many times.
Makino[]
Dread and Makino's were enemies, although the former initially acted as an ally to them. Miles had a deal with Makino to serve him. Secretly, Drad wanted to betray him and use the Turbo Star to put him at his mercy.
Jim McGrath[]
Not much is known about Miles and Jim's relationship, but they seemed to be best friends prior to the accident that almost took Jim's life. In Maximum Morphos, they meet after a long time and they are enemies, as Jim knows that Dread was responsible for the Turbo Star incident. Miles also refer to him as "Jimmy".
Jason Naught[]
