Max Steel: Turbo-Warriors is the second movie of the 2017 duology and seventh movie overall of Max Steel. Alongside its predecessor, Turbo-Charged, it is one of the two movies animated by Film Roman Baja J.V.. It aired on Latin America on July 29, 2017. It was written by Rob David, Jacob Goldfine, Lloyd Goldfine and Michael Ryan and directed by Lloyd Goldfine.

It was also the last film produced before the series' conclusion.

Synopsis

Terrorax is back with with most powerful weapon - the Pantheon! Can Max take down them in time to save the city he’s sworn to protect?

Plot

"We are Legion, We are One, We are Nexus!"

The film starts with a sick Terrorax seeing Copper Canyon and commenting how shiny and vivid it looks and how it would play the key role for his plans of absolute and total world domination. His speech is suddenly interupted when he coughs, revealing the consequences of the last battle against Max Steel, whom Terrorax refers to be a "cursed" hero. Earth Elementor asks why he didn't asked for Lord Nexus' help and the villain replies by saying that he was too weakened and needed help to recover. He asks for the Elementors' help and says that if they agreed, he would give them powers beyond what their wildest dreams. They shout the Nexus legion's battle cry, revealing that they were on Terrorax's side.

In the next day, Steel was announcing the first Steel-Tek event on Copper Canyon's beach. Meanwhile, Rayne, C.Y.T.R.O. and Alex were having fun. Rayne appears surfing and doing various maneuvers, which Steel points out as a "splendid entrance" and Alex does the same thing and comments about the monstrous waves. Rayne suddenly appears and scares him and because of that he asks if there were sharks on the water. C.Y.T.R.O. were Max was and he contacts the group saying that he was flying on the skies. Max finally shows up and he does few maneuvers on the waves and Alex says that he was a show off. He reunites with his friends and comments how beautiful the day was and asks if Steel wanted to join them, but he refuses, saying that he was better at the base. Shortly after, the water suddenly disappears and the day gets cloudy.

A tsunami is formed and Max commands Alex and C.Y.T.R.O. rescue the people on the beach, Rayne freeze the tsunami while he would rescue the surfers on the wave. The team goes Turbo and eventually they manage to save the people, but Rayne fails in containing the tsunami. Meanwhile, Terrorax heads to the prison and rescues Team Terror so they can help him in stealing the Terror Energy generator and in the way leaves few bombs. After Max, C.Y.T.R.O. and Alex realize that the tsunami was still coming, Steel warns that it would destroy half of the city. C.Y.T.R.O. points out to a empty building and asks if they could build a dam. The trio eventually knocks down the building and successfully stop the wave, which the team proudly states that they had stopped it. Out of the blue, the Elementors suddenly appear and they start a fight.

Meanwhile, Terrorax and his minions invade a vault where he claims that his precious Terror Energy Generator was. After finding it, Terrorax recapitulates how Max's blue energy had turned into his magnificent Terror Energy, which gave them incredible powers and would finally grant Nexus' subjugation over the world. Meanwhile, Team Terror simply watch him in confusion, but Terrorax gets angry and commands them to get the device. After doing so, he leaves a bomb and escapes from the base. Shortly after doing so, he activates all of the bombs that he had implanted and the entire base starts to explode. Steel attempts to warn Max, but he is knocked down before finishing his sentence. Max knocks down Fire, the last Elementor remaining, but the rest of them suddenly recover and they were about to fight again, but Terrorax contacts Metallak and claims that he had got the Terror Energy generator. They left and Max and Team Turbo are left confused.

They go back to their base and find it devastated. There, Max realizes that it was Terrorax and his goons behind the incident. Steel questions how he had passed through his security systems and states that he had stolen the Terror Energy generator. Max comes to the conclusion that the battle against the Elementors was a simple distraction while Rayne, disappointed, asks if the situation was getting worse. They are interupted by Alex, who says that the explosion had damaged his DVD collection of him fighting against villains. Max and the others watch in confusion and he says that they had to be ready for everything.

Meanwhile, Terrorax claims to Nexus that he wouldn't fail with him again, but he doesn't believes on him. Afterwards, Terrorax charges the Elementors, Team Terror and himself with Terror Energy and claims to Nexus that the world would be theirs and proceeds to shout the legion's motto. Later on, he hacks all the electronic devices on Copper Canyon and reveals that the Pantheon was heading to their city and charged with Terror Energy, which would destroy their energy and technology and if they refuse to join in the Nexus, they would die. Max and his team decided to take action and hours later they head to the Pantheon, but they are suddenly attacked by Team Terror. The heroes go Turbo and fight against them, but they are defeated due to their new enhanced powers. In the process, Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O. are captured by Team Terror, Alex is turned into a bionic panther by a infectious bite from Night Howl, while Max is being beaten by Monstro's clones. He gets angry and overloads with large quantites of T.U.R.B.O. energy, causing the creatures to vaporize into ashes and destroy few buildings nearby. He quickly gets up and realizes that Alex had been turned into a bionic panther and sees Team Terror going to the Pantheon with Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O..

Later on, Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O. are on the prison of the vehicle, attempting to find a way to escape. Terrorax appears and crushes their hopes by saying that the ship was a massive Terror Energy generator and that it couldn't be invaded nor destroyed by any means. He proceeds to activate the exponential towers of the Pantheon to prepare for the invasion on Copper Canyon. Meanwhile, Max heads back to the base, where he attempts to search a cure for Alex. After analyzing him, Steel reveals that the bite implanted nanites on his body, which were slowly corrupting his cells. Steel eventually finds a cure after a suggestion made by Max, but he reveals that he would need a portion of Night Howl's Terror Energy in order to reverse the mutation. He agrees to do so and while the ship approaches the city, Max, on his Turbo Sniper Mode, appear seeing the vehicle. He points out about the exponential towers on Pantheon, although that Steel says that they shouldn't focus on that right now. Max shoots a small T.U.R.B.O. energy burst, which creates a small opening, and quickly activates Turbo Rocket Spear Mode to invade it.

There, Max and Alex take down each member of Team Terror. Max uses a gun to melt the floor of the room where Monstro was, which causes him to fall to the ocean, Snare is torn to pieces by Alex, and Night Howl is left uncouncious after Max obtains a portion of his Terror Energy, allowing him to cure Alex. After doing so, they head were Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O. are, and Alex tosses Night Howl's body at the energy field to deactivate it. They happily reunite with them, although they are interupted by the Elementors, who showcases their new Terror-based upgrades. The team goes Turbo in order to fight back, and Max ends up being tossed out of the Pantheon by Water Elementor's water bazook's projectile. He activates Turbo Mountain Combat Mode and manages to use a grappling hook to climb to the top of the ship. Meanwhile, Terrorax proceeds to use the Terror Energy of the Pantheon to destroy technology at Copper Canyon and cause havoc and chaos. Max contacts Steel and tells them that they were taking over the city and desperately asks if he had found a way to deactivate it, of which Steel answers that the exponential towers were the key to shut it off. The team confirms that they had understood it and proceed to fight with the Elementors, while Max climbs up to the top of the ship.

Team Turbo use their skills to fight against the Elementors and manage to defeat Air and Water. However, Metal commands them to fuse themselves, which creates Fire and Metal Elementor, and Earth and Water Elementor, a duo of colossal creatures. They fight for a short period against them and are overpowered by their new abilities, but they decide to trick them. Tempestra flies on their direction and Fire and Metal attack with their blade, which ends up hitting the energy core of Earth and Water, thus undoing their fusion. Tempestra uses her ice rays to damage Fire and Metal, while C.Y.T.R.O. uses his Turbo Drill Mode to damage their core. After their fusion is undone, Metal decides to absorb the energy of his his brothers, which causes him to turn into a gigantic, enhanced version of himself.

Meanwhile, Max gets to the top of the Pantheon, where Steel drops a package with the Turbo Mobile. He reveals few disc-shaped devices that he would use to make the exponential towers pump his green T.U.R.B.O.. Although that Max thinks that it would be easy, Steel says that he would have to put them in twenty seconds, so Max quickly gets in the vehicle and proceeds to use the vehicle's incredible speed. In the process, he is interupted by Terrorax, who claims that he couldn't stop destiny, and proceeds to deactivate the devices. He says that he didn't knew about destiny, but that he undoubtedly would stop Terrorax, and launches missiles at him, which temporarily knock him down. Afterwards, he installs the last ones and their plan successfully work, and Steel takes control of the ship and directs it far away from the city. Meanwhile, the team fights against Elementor and feels the ship shaking due to Max's green energy, and La Fiera points out that they should finish the battle as soon as possible. Max was about to back to the prison level, until Terrorax reveals that he wasn't defeated just yet. He proceeds to turn into a dragon-like form to face his arch-nemesis. Afterwards, he claims that he was an immortal among men, and that his new beginning would start with Max's end. Max races on his direction and activates Turbo Devastator Mode, while Terrorax charges with him and prepares his axes. As they collide, a powerful energy wave is generated as a result.

Meanwhile, Team Turbo deals with Elementor. After he accidentally sticks his saw at the wall and is unable to remove it, C.Y.T.R.O. sees an opening and transforms himself into a drill to open a hole on Elementor's back. La Fiera climbs his body and enters on the opening and destroys his body by inside, which causes him to fall on the ground and his core deactivate as result. Meanwhile, Max fights against Terrorax using his wheel-like arms. After some time, Terrorax confesses that his adversary's powers were formidable and attempts to convince him to join his legion by showing him a vision of how a world dominated by the Nexus would be. He sees a city on chaos and havoc, while Team Turbo's corpses are resting on a dark alley, and him and Terrorax along with Nexus rulling the world. Max gets extremely angry and charges at Terrorax's direction full of rage and impales one of his wheels at his chest and then delivers a powerful blow at his face, causing his humanoid form to fade. Another weakened, smaller of Terrorax emerges and vows that he would come back, yet Max says that this only wouldn't happen if he let him go, and that was not the case. He launches few T.U.R.B.O.-powered missiles at him, which makes him fall at a green T.U.R.B.O. energy current and makes him burn to ashes while screaming in pain. Max gets off of the vehicle and Team Turbo arrives shortly after. Steel contacts them saying that the ship was going down and they escape. They activate their Turbo Rider modes to commemorate their victory over the Nexus.

Goofs

• When Monstro was cloning himself, there is a shot where Max and his team are watching him and La Fiera appears with a yellow visor rather than green.
• There are few instances where the green symbol on Max's chest is completely missing.
• The electric current on Snare's antennas are missing in the entire film. Sometimes, the energy core on the center of his chest is missing.
• While invading the vault on Team Turbo's base, in one shot Monstro is seeing Miles Dread's helmet, but in another, he is seeing a T.U.R.B.O. Energy cube that Terrorax used to store Max's energy in Turbo-Charged.

Toy Line

Main article: Turbo-Warriors (toy line)

Released on the second half of 2017, Turbo-Warriors was the second toy line of the year made to promote the titular film. The subline introduced new modes and vehicles used by Max in the film, Terrorax's new dragon form and Night Howl. The boxes of the series featured purple color and Max with his Turbo Mobile on the side.

Production

The movie was confirmed alongside with Turbo-Charged in October 12, 2016 when Mattel announced its content for 2017.

In November, it was announced that the Film Roman Baja JV animation studio was currently working on Mattel's Max Steel.

In July 29, 2017, the film aired on Latin America through Cartoon Network. In December 5, 2017, the official YouTube channel uploaded the entire film, split into thirteen parts. In December 11, Cartoon Network's Brazilian YouTube channel also released the full film.

At some point in 2020, the film was released at Sky Store and Showmax.

In February 2021, the film was released on Amazon Prime.

Trivia

• The opening scene of the film where Max uses Turbo Jet Pack Mode and then Turbo Wave Rider could have been inspired by the opening scene of Max Steel: Endangered Species.
• It is one of the few episodes/films where the characters use the word "kill" in a literal way. It is also the films with largest amount of deaths of the entire series, having a total of nine characters being killed.
• While under production, the film had few scrapped ideas, such as:
  • In the animatics, when Terrorax visits Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O. at the prison level, he is seen in his human form rather than as a mutant. There are also other individuals around him.
  • Snare and Night Howl used a worn out cloak that partially covered their torso.
  • In an earlier version of Turbo-Warriors, Max would wear a helmet (similar to that of Jet Boost Max Steel) while driving the Turbo Mobile.
  • Terrorax's mini dragon form would be also slightly different, this time bearing a resemblance with his toy line counterpart, gaining more of a bat-like appearance. When he was being hit by Max's missiles, the explosion would perforate his chest.
• Andrew Francis voices all five Elementors rather than voicing two of them, due to budget cuts.
• Alongside Turbo-Charged, Turbo-Warriors' title card was translated and adapted for other dubs, like Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.
• By the end of the film, Max shouts "Cowabunga!", which is a reference to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Interestingly, in the Portuguese dub, Max says something completely different, referring to the waves of the ocean.
• The alliance between Terrorax and the Elementors is named as "The Monolith".
