Synopsis[]

Terrorax is back with with most powerful weapon - the Pantheon! Can Max take down them in time to save the city he’s sworn to protect?

Plot[]

The Elementors join the Nexus.

The Elementors join the Nexus.

A weakened Terrorax observes Copper Canyon from the top of the Pantheon, remarking how shiny and vivid it looks. His speech is interrupted by a cough, revealing the consequences of his last battle against Max Steel. Earth Elementor asks why he didn't request lord Nexus' help, and the villain replies that he was too weakened and needed help to recover. He requests the aid of the Elementors, promising them powers beyond their wildest dreams. They shout the Nexus legion's battle cry as the Pantheon approaches the city.

The following day, Rayne and Alex surf the waves while Steel comments on their maneuvers. C.Y.T.R.O. later reunites with them, asking where Max is. McGrath contacts the group, revealing he was in the sky. Using Turbo Jet Pack Mode, Max performs a maneuver and activates Turbo Wave Rider Mode, landing on the ocean and reuniting with them shortly after. He contacts Steel, asking if he wants to join them. The Ultralink refuses, saying he would rather stay in their headquarters. Unknown to Steel, Terrorax has managed to invade their base, and planted a bomb before exploring the rest of the facility.

Suddenly, the ocean water disappears, forming a tsunami. Max instructs Alex and C.Y.T.R.O. to rescue the people on the beach, and Rayne to use her powers to freeze the threat. Meanwhile, Terrorax heads to the base's prison level and uses sparks of Terror energy to free Team Terror. At the beach, Rayne fails to contain the tsunami, and it continues to advance. Steel warns the group, stating that it will destroy half of the city. C.Y.T.R.O. points to an empty building, asking if they could use it to build a dam to stop the tsunami. Using their superhuman strength, the trio manages to knock down the building, successfully ending the threat. They reunite with Rayne, celebrating their victory. Out of the blue, however, the Elementors emerge and clash with Team Turbo. Meanwhile, Terrorax and his minions invade Team Turbo's vault, where they find Prometheus' Terror energy generator. After stealing it, the group leaves, and Terrorax activates the bombs he had planted. Steel tries to warn Max about the villain's invasion but is knocked out before he can, thanks to an explosion. As Team Turbo and the Elementors prepare to another round, Terrorax contacts Metallak, claiming he has the generator. The villainous group retreat, vowing to get them next time.

Terrorax's transmission.

Terrorax's transmission.

They head back to their destroyed base. After a weakened Steel reveals that Terrorax was behind the incident, Max realizes that the battle against the Elementors was simply a distraction. Meanwhile, at the Pantheon, Terrorax contacts Nexus to reveal that he has obtained the generator. Using the device, he recovers his powers and empowers Team Terror and the Elementors. The Nexus legion later hacks electronic devices around the world to announce their intentions of destroying cities unless people join their cause. After the transmission ends, Max and his team gear up and head toward the Pantheon, which is quickly approaching Copper Canyon. However, they are intercepted by an empowered Team Terror. They attempt to stop the villainous group, but Alex is mutated into a bionic panther after being bit by Night Howl, Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O. are captured and Max are overwhelmed by Monstro's clones. Using his T.U.R.B.O. energy, McGrath causes a massive explosion that vaporizes the duplicates. Weakened, he is awakened by a mutated Alex, and realizes that the Pantheon is still approaching the city.

Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O., now imprisoned, are approached by Terrorax, who boasts that the Pantheon is unassailable and unstoppable. He is contacted by a Nexus operative, who reveals that the exponential towers of the ship are fully operational. Max and Alex head back to Team Turbo's headquarters, where Steel examines the Alex. He discovers that Night Howl's Terror-powered bite had implanted bio-nanites that were slowly corrupting Alex's cells. After Max suggests the creation of an anti-nanite concoction, Steel gives him the necessary equipment, but warns that he will need a portion of Night Howl's Terror energy for it to work. Max and Alex head to the top of a building, where McGrath points out several exponential towers on the top of the ship. He shoots a concentrated burst of T.U.R.B.O. energy at the ship's shield, creating a small opening. He activates Turbo Rocket Spear Mode and manages to invade the Pantheon.

Terror-charged Elementors.

Using Turbo Anti-Toxic Mode, Max manages to invade Monstro's lair. He melts the floor with a blaster, causing Monstro to fall into the ocean. They later head to Snare's room, where the robot is dismantled by Alex. At Night Howl's room, the villain spots Alex emerging from the shadows, piquing his curiosity. An invisible Max attacks Night Howl from behind, extracting his Terror energy and knocking him out. Using the equipment Steel had given him, Max creates the concoction and injects it into Alex. He finally uses his T.U.R.B.O. to burn off the Terror energy off his body, restoring his friend's humanity. They head to the prison level, where Alex throws Night Howl's body into the energy field, deactivating it. Shortly after reuniting, however, they are interrupted by the Elementors, who showcase their new Terror upgrades. Tempestra, C.Y.T.R.O. and La Fiera activate their Turbo Modes to fight them. Max attempts to go Turbo as well, but Water Elementor blasts him off the Pantheon using his water bazooka. Activating Turbo Mountain Combat Mode, McGrath manages to pin a grappling hook to the ship. The ship activates and begins to rain down Terror energy down on Copper Canyon, causing technology to go haywire. Max contacts Steel, who reveals that the Pantheon's exponential towers are the key to shut it off. While Team Turbo deals with the Elementors, Max climbs to the top of the ship.

Armored Metal Elementor.

Team Turbo manages to temporarily defeat Air and Water Elementors. Metal instructs them to fuse in order to fight back, creating the giant-sized Fire and Metal Elementor, and Earth and Water Elementor. Though initially struggling to neutralize them, the team decides to trick the villains. As Tempestra flies toward them, Fire and Metal attempt to attack her but end up hitting Earth and Water's energy core, undoing their fusion. Using her ice ray, Tempestra immobilizes the Elementor, while C.Y.T.R.O. uses his drill to damage their core. Refusing to be defeated, Metal decides to absorb his brothers' Terror energy, becoming a gigantic, armored version of himself. He declares that Team Turbo will meet their doom.

Meanwhile, Max reaches the top of the Pantheon, where Steel drops a container with the Turbo Mobile. Contacting McGrath, Steel points to several disc-shaped polarity inverters to plant on the exponential towers of the ship. He warns Max that he will need to put them within twenty seconds. Max gets inside of the vehicle, switching to his Turbo Base Mode, and begins to plant the devices on the towers. However, he is interrupted by Terrorax, who attempts to remove them, declaring destiny couldn't be stopped. McGrath rebuffs him, claiming that while he doesn't know about destiny, he will undoubtedly stop Terrorax. He launches missiles at him, temporarily neutralizing the villain. He plants the last device and Steel syncs them, causing the exponential towers to generate green T.U.R.B.O. energy. The Ultralink takes control of the ship and begins redirecting it. Meanwhile, Team Turbo feels the ship shaking, with La Fiera commenting that the vehicle will blow up at any second. He prepares to return to the prison level to help his team, but Terrorax recovers and transforms into a dragon-like form. Claiming that his new beginning will start with Maxwell's end, he lunges toward the hero. McGrath bolts toward him, activating the Turbo Mobile's Turbo Devastator Mode. The two clash, unleashing an energy shockwave as they collide.

Max fights Terrorax one last time.

Max fights Terrorax one last time.

Meanwhile, Team Turbo fights Elementor. After he accidentally impales his saw in the wall and is unable to remove it, C.Y.T.R.O. activates an alternate form of his drill mode and opens a hole in the villain's back. La Fiera climbs up his body and enters through the opening, destroying Elementor's insides. As a result, the villain falls to the ground and his core deactivates. At the top of the Pantheon, Max continues with his fight against Terrorax. The villain comments that his adversary's powers are "truly formidable" and attempts to convince him to join the Nexus by showing a vision of a world taken over by the Nexus. In it, Team Turbo was killed and Max, Terrorax and Nexus ruled over humanity. Angered, McGrath charges at Terrorax and impales one of his bladed wheel's into his chest, finally delivering a powerful blow that destroys his humanoid form. A weakened, smaller form of Terrorax emerges, vowing to return. McGrath launches missiles at him, causing the villain to fall into a green T.U.R.B.O. energy current. As a result, Terrorax burns to ashes. Max gets out the vehicle and Team Turbo arrives shortly after. Steel contacts the group, warning the ship is going down. The group leaves and activate their Turbo Wave Rider Modes, celebrating their victory over the Nexus.

Production[]

Turbo-Warriors and Turbo-Charged were publicly announced in October 12, 2016 when Mattel announced its content slate for 2017.[1]

In November of the same year, it was announced that the animation studio Film Roman Baja JV was currently working on Mattel's Max Steel.[2]

In July 29, 2017, the film aired on Latin America through Cartoon Network. In December 5, 2017, the official YouTube channel uploaded the entire film, split into thirteen parts. In December 11, Cartoon Network's Brazilian YouTube channel also released the full film.

Trivia[]

  • The opening scene of the film where Max uses Turbo Jet Pack Mode and then Turbo Wave Rider may have been inspired by the opening scene of Max Steel: Endangered Species.
  • It is one of the few episodes/films where the characters use the word "kill" in a literal way. It is also the films with largest amount of deaths of the entire series, having a total of nine characters being killed.
  • Several scenes were executed differently during production.
    • In the animatics, when Terrorax visits Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O. at the prison level, he is shown in his human form rather than as a mutant. There are also other individuals around him, in contrast to the finished product, where the place is empty.[6]
    • Snare and Night Howl wore worn-out cloaks over their torsos.[6]
    • Several mutated/robotic Nexus agents patrolled the Pantheon. In the final product, regular, cloaked operatives are seen.[6]
    • While driving the Turbo Mobile, Max was supposed to wear a helmet much like his toy line counterpart. The helmet was modeled and seen in rough 3D versions of the final battle, but was ultimately scrapped.[7]
    • Terrorax's dark beast form (which he assumes after his original form is destroyed during his final fight against Max) had a different design, with his face taking a skull-like appearance and the overall design being more bat-like. Additionally, the missiles sent by Max perforated his chest in the storyboards and rough 3D cut of the final battle.[7]
  • Andrew Francis voices all five Elementors rather than voicing two of them, either due to time or budget constraints.
  • Alongside Turbo-Charged, Turbo-Warriors' title card was translated and adapted for other dubs, like Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.
  • By the end of the film, Max shouts "Cowabunga!", referencing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Interestingly, in the Brazilian Portuguese dub, Max says something completely different, referring to the waves of the ocean.
  • Turbo-Warriors is the only film of the franchise to not feature any blue-colored Turbo Modes.

Goofs[]

  • When Monstro is cloning himself, there is a shot where Max and his team are watching him. La Fiera appears with a yellow visor rather than green.
  • There are some instances where the green symbol on Max's chest is completely missing.
  • The electric current on Snare's antennas are missing in the entire film. In some shots, the energy core on the center of his chest is missing.
  • While invading the vault on Team Turbo's base, in one shot Monstro is seeing Miles Dread's helmet, but in another, he is seeing a T.U.R.B.O. Energy cube that Terrorax used to store Max's energy in Turbo-Charged.
