Jefferson Smith, occasionally referred to as Commander Smith, is a recurring character introduced in the first season of Max Steel. An experienced pilot and a highly respected N-Tek agent, Jefferson is a part of the organization's aerial forces alongside Katherine "Kat" Ryan, whom he is good friends with. Jefferson is voiced by Omari Newton and debuted on Come Together Part One. In Team Turbo, he is voiced by Trevor Devall.
History[]
Early Life[]
Nothing is known about Jefferson's early life, other than he joined N-Tek at some point.
Season 1[]
Come Together Part One[]
Alongside Katherine and Berto, Jefferson was on a space mission to recover an Ultralink pod. After they spot it, a trio of THI airships ambush them The enemy damage their N-Tek Jump Jet, but they manage to recover the pod and head back to N-Tek's mountain base.
After Maxwell McGrath is taken to N-Tek's facility, Katherine requests Jefferson to call Commander Forge. Max later Ultralinks with Steel and attempts to escape from the base. Jefferson tries to stop him, but is defeated.
Come Together Part Three[]
After Maxwell is captured by Miles Dread, Jefferson, Forge, Molly and Katherine start a reunion to discover where the teen was taken to. With Steel's aid, Maxwell manages to escape, but Miles captures the Ultralink. Jefferson, alongside other N-Tek soldiers, invade THI's headquarters. After destroying turrets at the main hall, Jason releases an army of Dread Naughts to deal with them. With their combined efforts, Jefferson and the agents successfully stop them.
C.Y.T.R.O. Attacks![]
Following an attempted invasion, Jefferson, Katherine and Jefferson were at one of N-Tek's corridors analyzing a strange green-colored gooey substance at the ground when Maxwell arrives. Kat points out that the intruder wanted to get inside of the Chemi-Vault. Curious, McGrath asks what it was, of which Jefferson replies it was where they locked the "bad stuff".
The agents split in groups of two. C.Y.T.R.O., Berto's latest creation, suddenly goes rogue and begins to destroy the base. Jefferson and other agents attempt to stop him. Despite their best efforts, the robot successfully gets inside of the Chemi-Vault and steals the Tox-Bomb, later escaping from the facility.
After Toxzon's defeat, Jefferson and Kat escort him to prison.
Hard Water[]
Following Molly's mysterious disappearance at the Copper Canyon ocean, Jefferson, Katherine, Maxwell, Steel and Forge unite at the mountain base. Kat and Jefferson attempt to comfort Max, saying that they would find her. However, McGrath tells them he would be the one to do so. Forge reasons with him, telling he should leave this issue for the adults.
Jefferson and Kat later use a submersible in an attempt of finding Molly, but also disappear. After gaining Turbo Scuba Mode, Max finds the culprit behind the disappearances: Water Elementor. Jefferson, Katherine, Molly and other people were strapped to a device, with the Ultralink intending to use them as living batteries to power up his starship. Jefferson, alongside the other people, are saved after Max defeats Elementor.
The Thrill of the Hunt[]
Jefferson, Katherine, Forge, Maxwell and Steel head to a cold place, where an alien starship was. After Steel enters the ship and deactivates its shield, the N-Tek agents invade it. Jefferson's group find an Ultralink pod and he contacts Forge, telling him they had found the target. Ferrus commands his team to leave the place and activates various bombs they had placed inside the ship, causing it to explode. The N-Tek agents leave in tanks, but are intercepted by Troy Winter, a bounty hunter sent by Miles Dread to obtain the Ultralink. They later head back to N-Tek's mountain base.
The N-Tek team is having a reunion when Max and Steel intervene, requesting answers. Molly contacts him shortly after to talk about mysterious technological pieces she had found at THI's headquarters when someone attacks the place. N-Tek head to Copper Canyon city and are found by Earth and Fire Elementors. Max later intervenes and manages to defeat Fire, allowing N-Tek to capture him.
Jefferson, Katherine and Forge invade Troy Winter's hideout in hopes of finding the Ultralink. However, they were too late, as the case containing the device was empty.
Extroyer Unleashed[]
Following a mysterious break-in at a laboratory, Jefferson watches as a worker, shocked by the experience, is escorted out from the place. He requests more info from Kat, who was checking the security footage, and sees a mutated tiger in it. Smith, Kat, Maxwell and Steel then investigate the room, with the Ultralink finding an advanced processor.
After Max and Steel's encounter with Troy, who now went by the name of "Extroyer", they head back to N-Tek's mountain base to share with them what they had discovered. Jefferson is surprised upon seeing what Winter had turned into.

After Professor Mortum attacks the Daedelus platform, Jefferson wakes up Berto, who had passed out prior. As he helps other agents to recover, Mortum teleports into the ship and attacks the crew. Jefferson attempts to sneak behind him and attack with a screwdriver, but he fails and is thrown at the wall. Mortum demands answers about the "Connect-Tek" to Jim, who refuses to deliver it. Angered, Mortum uses his powers to teleport the agents from the ship.
Mortum heads to his hideout, where he keeps the agents he captured as captives. They are eventually rescued by Max Steel and his newly formed Team Turbo, however.
Abilities[]
Jefferson is a highly skilled pilot, being described as one of the top five pilots in the world.[1] In Come Together Part One, Jefferson was ambushed by three THI enemy ships after obtaining an Ultralink pod. After his N-Tek Jump Jet is trapped, he pulls forward with a thrust maneuver, causing two of the three ships to collide. As the last ship pursues him, Jefferson suddenly reverses direction mid-flight, finally landing a precise shot that eliminates the airship. In addition to his piloting abilities, Jefferson possesses a strong and athletic build, allowing him to hold his own against stronger enemies such as Dread Naughts, as seen in Come Together Part Three. In it, he managed to take down a couple of robots by kicking and tackling at them. Jefferson is a highly trained N-Tek agent and knows how to handle weapons with precision, such as blasters. Additionally, he also has advanced science degrees.
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Jefferson is a friendly, wisecracking and charismatic individual who gets along with his comrades very well. Level-headed and task-driven, Jefferson remains calm and composed during missions despite adversities, as exemplified in Come Together Part One and Come Together Part Three. Despite this, he sometimes may lose his temper when provoked, as seen in Elements of Surprise Part One, when he, Forge, Berto, Steel and Maxwell fought due to an argument. This is exemplified once again in The Secret Admirer, after Max, who thought that Jefferson was sending flowers to his mother, confronted him and accidentally caused a minor T.U.R.B.O. energy that knocked back Smith. After he got up, he got angry at McGrath, telling him he'd "mop" N-Tek's facility with his face.
Jefferson is typically seen with food in hand, even in missions. As revealed in A Germ of an Idea, Jefferson even has a secret candy storage room. Additionally, Smith knows about the secrets behind Max and Steel's past, and, like other agents, tried to hide the truth from them.
Relationships[]
Katherine Ryan[]
Jefferson and Katherine are good friends. The two are always seen together in missions or hanging out at the N-Tek base. In missions, the two mutually help each other, as exemplified in Come Together Part Three, when Kat climbed on Smith's hand to jump in a platform and destroy several Dread Naughts. Jefferson has romantic feelings for her, as seen in Earth Under Siege Part Two.
Commander Forge Ferrus[]
According to Forge Ferrus Interview, Jefferson finds Forge to be an honorable man and thinks it is an honor to work for him. He refers to him as "Commander Forge".
Maxwell McGrath[]
Jefferson and Max are good friends. In C.Y.T.R.O. Attacks!, Max saves Jefferson's life after a rogue C.Y.T.R.O. threw a door at him. Smith pats Max's shoulder, thanking him for his action. In Hard Water, following Molly's disappearance, Jefferson sees that Max was preoccupied and comforts him, saying they would find her.
In The Secret Admirer, Max erroneously believes that Jefferson was sending flowers to his mother after he told him to tell her he had said "hey". This led to Max confronting Smith and accidentally knocking him back with a small T.U.R.B.O. energy blast. Jefferson got up, but was extremely angry at McGrath. Later, Maxwell apologizes to him, saying he he was sorry for losing his cool with him.
In A Germ of an Idea, Maxwell tries to convince Jefferson, who was the second-in-command due to Forge being busy with the Daedelus platform, to allow him to use Ven-Ghan's shrinking tech to get inside of Toxzon's body. Jefferson is initially reluctant, but allows him to proceed under one condition: no one would tell Forge.
Molly McGrath[]
Jefferson and Molly probably are good friends. In The Secret Admirer, Jefferson said to Max to say "hey" to Molly.
