I'll call him ... Furbo! Who's a cute little Furbo? You are! Yes, you are!
—Steel to Furbo, Animal Attraction

Furbo is a minor character introduced on the second season of Max Steel. He was created by Roberto "Berto" Martinez to serve as Steel's pet dog. Furbo's only appearance was in Animal Attraction.

History[]

Season 2[]

Animal Attraction[]

During an Ultralink hunting mission, Steel spotted three ducklings and adopted them. After causing some confusion at N-Tek, Berto advises him to release the animals back into the wild, but Steel refuses to. Martinez tells him that he would get him a "awesome pet" and develops a cybernetic dog that the Ultralink names as "Furbo". Berto reveals that he had programmed it to be low maintenance, but he needed 10 hours of sleep otherwise he would become hyperactive. Max attempts to pet Furbo, but her snarls at him and prepares to attack.

Steel takes Furbo to N-Tek's training station, where he programs the environment to resemble a forest. He plays with Furbo and trains him to attack villains such as Miles Dread, Jason Naught and Extroyer and his henchmen. Forge Ferrus contacts Max and Steel to go on an Ultralink hunting mission. Steel brought Furbo with him, who kept barking much to Ferrus' annoyance.

After failing to capture the Ultralink, Ferrus discusses a new strategy with the N-Tek team while Steel plays catch with Furbo. He gets angry at the Ultralink, telling him that he should be more responsible with his pet. He accidentally throws a screw on N-Tek's replicator, getting Furbo's attention. Unknowingly to Steel and the others, the replicator began to create countless clones of Furbo. In the next morning, Berto contacts Steel due to his dog and his clones, who were hyperactive and swarming N-Tek's base. However, before Max and Steel could solve the situation, Ferrus tells them to go on a mission to find Extroyer.

Steel takes Furbo to the mission. After a short battle against Extroyer, the villain escapes into the city and Max attempts to go after him, but Furbo stops him. Furbo points at a direction, but Max ignores him and leaves. The dog spots Vin and Dwayne, who were with a case containing a DNA Microfusor. He follows them to their new hideout. He quietly watches as Extroyer reveals his plans of using the microfusor to improve his abilities and decides to steal the device from the villain's hands. Vin and Dwayna attempt to capture the dog, but he was faster than them. Extroyer decides to take matters into his own hands and uses his spider form to launch a web and trap Furbo. Thanks to his GPS locator, Max and Steel were able to track down Furbo and discover Extroyer's hideout.

During Max, Steel and C.Y.T.R.O.'s battle against Extroyer, Furbo is badly damaged by some of his Ultralink shards. He is later repaired and his clones are sent to a Makino Destroyer orbiting Earth, where the Ultralinks Blast, Chomp and Prism Link deal with them.

Appearance[]

Personality[]

Furbo is a lively, smart, courageous and curious dog. He has a certain dislike towards Maxwell McGrath and Forge Ferrus, as he snarled at them several times.

Abilities[]

  • Superhuman Speed: Furbo's ability of flight offers him superhuman speed.
  • Superhuman Reflexes: Furbo has enhanced reflexes, as seen when he was escaping from Vin and Dwayne at Extroyer's hideout. He easily avoided the pillars of the place while flying in high speed and several Ultralink shards of Extroyer's Xenoshok form.
  • Missile Launchers: Furbo has missile launchers attached on his torso and four legs. Aside from the launcher attached to his torso, which can launch one missile, the other four can launch three at the same time.
  • Flight: Furbo has propellers attached to the sides of his body, allowing him to fly in high speed.
  • Wheels: Furbo has wheels attached to his paws.
  • Energy Lasers: Furbo can launch green-colored energy rays from a launcher attached to the top of his torso.
  • GPS: Furbo has a GPS installed in his systems.

Weaknesses[]

  • Hyperactive State: Furbo needs at least ten hours of sleep, otherwise he will become hyperactive.
  • Durability Limit: Furbo was badly damaged after being hit by some of Extroyer's Ultralink shards.

Trivia[]

  • According to production material, Furbo was originally named as "Cydo", with his former name likely being a portmanteau of the words "cyber" and "dog".[1]
    • A sheet of a slightly updated version of his model was also shown in the portfolio of an individual who worked on the series. The sheet shows the production code "312", meaning it's possible that, at some point, Furbo was meant to reappear in the mini episodes of the series.
